Dirk's son Roland and 2 friends have started Legend Soccer Company,  developing innovative, sustainable soccer gear (and only soccer gear). Learn about Legend Soccer Company at the link above. Dirk not only endorses Legend Soccer, he's involved with it - "and not only because Roland is my son."

Default Galactica 1980

Can anyone help me, please? Where can I get the 10 episodes from Galactica 1980? Will they ever be released on DVD?

Now, there's a question.

Many were hoping that G80 would be part of the boxed BSG set, but it wasn't. I've not heard any rumors that Universal intends to release G80 on DVD at all. After all, it didn't even last a full season, and only the final episode is considered by most to be any good at all.

That's not to say it's not available - I know one or two people who have it on VHS, so it's possible that one of the sites that sell TV shows on video (not necessarily "official" releases, you understand) might have it. You might also check out e-Bay, too. Just be careful, since these might be skirting the legal line.

I found the show to be completely unwatchable. I got through more of the pilot for the "reimagining" than I did for this one. It's my own opinion that "Return of Starbuck" is the only episode worth watching. Watched it again a few weeks ago and cried myself sick all over again. Keep an eye on scifi channel - sometimes they'll have marathons and that's how I managed to record my copy of RoS.

Now I just have to burn it to DVD.

Yes, sad, sad. I found somebody selling a self-made DVD + selfmade DVD-case on a Yahoo auction, but i'm not a fan of faked illegal stuff, if you know what I mean. Uhm... it's a real tragedy... maybe, one day...

I got me the BSG box this summer in Holland - it's great!

*cries* We have no sci-fi-channels, which means, yes there is one as much as I know, but it's Pay TV which we don't have  I'm very surprised they even showed the pilot of BSG a couple of times lately on a not so well known channel here in Germany.

I know how you feel, not wanting an illegimate" copy of something, but my opinion is...

If it's NOT (maybe never) going to be released on DVD or other 'legitamate' media, then it's fair game for copy. I say go ahead and do it, then when they release it for real, buy the commercial copy.

Disclaimer: this is my opinion and most likely does not reflect a correct legal opinion.

I got my copy off e-bay for not a lot (£4-5) and, of course, only the very last episode is worth using up 52 minutes of your life for.

The previous episodes vary from "a waste of time" to dire in extremis.

Preachy, childish and badly written.

Hi everyone!
I'd buy the series just for the episode "Return of Starbuck".
This might become a future collector's item! Who knows? :?

Take care,
Anne

Hi all,
I agree with everyone here, 1980 is very bad and not worth wasting your time on. The Return of Starbuck is a great episode though and yes you might be right Barbara it might become a collectors item but I would die, rather than buy the entire 1980, its dire to the extreme. But you can see it on utube I think, maybe it can be downloaded from there, just an idea

Occasionally the single ep shows up on eBay - that's where I got my copy. Not perfect quality, but considering the price...

I've heard that they might be actually releasing the Galactica 1980 series on DVD. I am going to check out some sites and post a link when I find out more.
I don't think that it's a bad idea. It'd make a great addition to my collection, especially with the episode "The Return of Starbuck".

Take care,
Anne

I'll be picking up my copy next week(payday). Any word on bonus features, or is it a bare bones release?

I hear it's pretty bare bones. But do you expect better from Universal?

At least they all worked though, that's something. On some of the BSG DVD's and, so I've heard, the Buck Rogers DVD's, some of the discs don't even work :?

universal, just in it for the money? ohhh no, not at all

I got the Galactica 1980 series DVD for Christmas. Both disks worked perfectly. I'm very pleased. It was also very nicely packaged. Each disk was also in it's own disk case. I'm not disappointed at all. *well...I would have liked to have seen a booklet...but the quality of the disks were EXCELLENT!*
I also have the "original" BSG series DVD collector's edition boxed set. All of my DVD's worked.

Hello Anne,
good to hear that you like all the DVDs!

I too have the 1980 version (but only the one with Dirk). I like this movie a lot.

The original BSG serie DVD in the silver zylon head I have too.
The bonus-DVD is very very very good! Do you like the bonus-DVD with all the interviews?

Many Greetings, viele Grüße

Petra

Hallo Petra!

Yes. I have the DVD with the extras and I also have the edition with Cylon head on the box.
*that's the BSG original series collector edition DVD's boxed set* You won't be disappointed with the Galactica 1980 DVD 2 disk set.

Machs Gut! und Viele Liebe Gruesse,
Anne
