LEGEND SOCCER COMPANY
Do you like soccer (or, as the rest of the world calls it, football)? Dirk does in a big way, and it has become a family affair.

Dirk's son Roland and 2 friends have started Legend Soccer Company,  developing innovative, sustainable soccer gear (and only soccer gear). Learn about Legend Soccer Company at the link above. Dirk not only endorses Legend Soccer, he's involved with it - "and not only because Roland is my son."

The darker the times in the real world, the more the public will demand more positive entertainment. I don’t know how many of you have looked out your windows lately, but things aren’t all that bright and cheerful right now. We the public don’t want our entertainment to add to the despair and melancholy we are experiencing day in and day out, we the public want our entertainment to be uplifting and exciting.
Personally, I think this is the biggest reason why a return to the feeling of the old BSG would make this movie a hit.

People are tired. They're tired of the breast beating and the saber rattling. They're tired of the anger, the frustration, worrying about what tomorrow will bring - not only in the world and the country but in their own towns and homes. What they need is hope. And though I've only seen part of the old BSG (one day I'll find that other 24 hours in the day! ) that's the one thing that comes through - no matter how dark it might seem, there is something better waiting, and that people aren't cynical and selfish but worthy of that better something. While it may seem cynical to put that in terms of "blockbuster" or money - I think that's exactly the type of movie that would be successful. So people come out of it smiling a little inside.

Sorry I've not had a chance to read your new 'essay' yet, but from O's comments above, I gotta say I'm not sure.

There were plenty of sombre, dark films made and enjoyed during WW2. There were plenty of the opposite too. I guess they cater for all of us in whatever mood we're in?

Though I gotta agree with you both that I wish there were more uplifting, fun shows/movies that weren't just juvenile in their comedy? How much American pie can one eat! LOL. Nowadays I don't think the general networks would agree to anything 'pro-family' as that might not be seen as pc! Have to get that on the specialist 'religion' channels? Ho-hum!

Well, there are always dark somber movies and light comedies. But this could be a scifi that actually doesn't make you want to go home and shoot yourself because the future is so bleak. And just the fact that it's scifi and not a blatant comedy or a chick flick would give it a broader appeal. It would certainly be refreshing at any rate.

Thumbs up Re: Finally - a new Dawg's Bark!

The movie that will be made (if it is made at all) will be designed to appeal to the widest possible demographic, to bring in the most people. This means positive, this means action – the original universe. It is being helmed by someone we already know is not only a fan of the original universe, but also has a track record of respecting source material. This combination is enough to give us the hope we’re feeling right now.

Dear Friend Dawg, congratulations on your essay
If my translator did not fail, the quote above is all that I wanted to read, is all that I want as a fan: "respect" to the original.
I think that is all a fan deserves ...

Your translator did not fail, my friend. Respect is, indeed, what we deserve.

And thanks, deebee!
