Richard "Apollo" Hatch has passed.
I hate being the bearer of bad news, but this has just come across my radar and is incredibly sad.
Richard Hatch, Dirk's co-star on Battlestar Galactica and many other notable roles, passed away today. From what I've been able to gather, he had pancreatic cancer.
This is terribly sad. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and fans.

Re: Richard "Apollo" Hatch has passed.
I can't believe it. So very sorry. I lost a friend to pancreatic cancer. It's vicious.
Richard was another childhood hero, same as Dirk. Made me smile every Saturday night as a 10 year old kid watching captain Apollo fly his viper. God bless him.

Re: Richard "Apollo" Hatch has passed.
I'm stunned. He missed Modesto convention because he was hospitalized. Never guessed that it was this serious as they said he was recovering quickly.
My condolences to the family. May he rest in galatic heaven.

I'm so sad right now. Can't believe it. And losing him means losing a big part of what made BSG special. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

In the spirit of the music thread, I'm dedicating "can't cry hard enough" by Dan Seals to the memory or Richard Hatch aka Apollo.

Re: Richard "Apollo" Hatch has passed.
I heard from Dirk today. He's being very quiet, calm and still.
This is a hard pill to swallow, after all, a genuine shock to the heart - and we each process it in our own way. Personally, I'm discovering that Richard's passing is changing my own thinking on some things in subtle but surprising ways.
Dirk is presently catching up with castmates and friends of long standing. We'll see in the coming days if he decides to comment, or not; I'm not going to press him to say something he's not ready to say, I'm not a gossip columnist. He may well opt to just let Richard go, but if he does comment, you'll know about it very shortly after I do.

Thank you for keeping us updated. You're right, there's no need to push for a response. It's hard to find words to make sense of the suddenness and the loss; I have yet to find them - still trying to process. Thinking of you and Dirk and everyone else right now and praying we will find peace as we work through this.

Thank you, John. News like this is always hard to digest and I find myself still at a loss for words ... So I certainly don't expect Dirk to comment if he doesn't feel up to it. This decision should be entirely his. Sending all my love to him and the entire BSG family in these difficult times.

Beautiful Short Poem For The Death Of A Friend
(By Anon Published: January 2012)
Shining Star
The angels looked down from heaven one night
They searched for miles afar,
And deep within the distance
They could see a shining star.
They knew that very instant
That the star was theirs to gain,
So they took you up to heaven
Forever to remain.
Look down on us from heaven
Keep us free from hurt and pain,
You'll always be within my heart
Until we meet again.

Re: Richard "Apollo" Hatch has passed.
There are no words to describe the shock of hearing this terribly sad news. I do always want to remember Richards infectious smile and great laugh, but especially his kind heart and his generous time he spent with many fans and the love of his family and friends.
He was truly an inspiring human being and we should all aspire to be like Richard was, caring, passionate and honest.
Hugs to all.
