Re: "Quotables"

This quote was referenced in an assigned reading for my Intercultural Communication class, but really, it applies to all human interactions on a deep, almost moving, level.

“Listening is a rare happening among human beings. You cannot listen to the word another is speaking if you are preoccupied with your appearance or impressing the other, or if you are trying to decide what you are going to say when the other stops talking, or if you are debating about whether the word being spoken is true or relevant or agreeable. Such matters may have their place, but only after listening to the word as the word is being uttered. Listening, in other words, is a primitive act of love, in which a person gives self to another’s word, making self accessible and vulnerable to that word.”

We never know how high we are
Till we are called to rise;
And then, if we are true to plan,
Our statures touch the skies—

The Heroism we recite
Would be a daily thing,
Did not ourselves the Cubits warp
For fear to be a King—

~ Emily Dickinson

A rule for life. When I had to wear a plaid skirt and uniform in school, I stayed warm with the help of lots of patterned knee socks. :)

I didn't even think of that... :))

In that case, enough cubits could make you a king regardless of how warped they were. So it is written in the Spacefarer's Guide to the Colonies.

I've been asked if this was my own quote, and it isn't. Then I realized I had added many quotes here that I found on the internet that had been posted with no accompanying credit so I posted them the way I found them. I've gone through this thread and corrected that. I have only one quote here and my name is attached.

Fun socks can be just that. Fun. If they match the outfit, more power to you. But fun socks can just make the day that much better.
