View Full Version : Pumpkin soup and poetry

I found a really easy recipe for pumpkin soup, which I would like to share:
1 1/2 l water, 1 pumpkin, 1 or 2 sweet potatoes, 2 parsnips, 2 onions, sea salt, cumin powder (if you don't like cumin you can substitute with ginger powder). Slice everything in small cubes, put it in the water and bring to a boil. After it started boiling add sea salt and cumin powder. Let it simmer for about 20-30 minutes or until it's done. Mash the whole thing up: you get a really nice, heart-warming, smooth soup! :cool:

And about poetry:D: I posted this haiku in the Haiku Hut :oops: (see social groups), but it is quite appropriate for this thread:

Balance yin and yang
You followers of the grain
Good health, isn't it nice?

Slicing the onions,
Cooking the lentils and beans
and, of course, brown rice.

A dash of sea salt
and a splash of tamari,
adding some kombu.

These are the basics,
the macrobiotic way.
Don't forget to chew! :cool:;)

Oh and seriously I did go out and skip rope today for about 5 minutes.... that is invigorating, but being outside and barefoot in november can be invigorating all on its own tomorrow we will see if I can do more

And how about your favourite recipe for pumpkin soup (that is, if you have one :confused:)? Please share ... :oops:

Rope skipping, barefoot, November .... :eek: Never expected to see those words in one sentence ... :o Awesome, I'm very impressed !! But keep up the good work and you'll have to write a new haiku to replace this one! :))>:):p

My recipe for pumpkin soup would involve two 12 oz cans of pumpkin purree and turkey sausage, and two cans of goat milk not very macrobiotic.... LOL

Enjoy my new one over in the haiku hut... I mis spoke, I don't think I skipped for 5 minutes, I think I missed the rope for 5 minutes, and skipped about 50 times, but today I did 200x with shoes on. I used to skip rope all the time to warm up for the sports I played.

I will write more maybe a haiku poem about skipping rope...

Su, you're most welcome, with or without haikus!:DBtw, being our sort of designated baking specialist (all those, by the sound of it alone, exquisite cakes), do you have any recipes to share? :confused: MB or otherwise, that doesn't matter, because one can always 'translate' ingredients one cannot have into something else ... thus creating perhaps a new recipe. :))>:):p What about a cake haiku ....?:confused:;) Who can come up with one of those .....:confused::cool:

Shasta, love your haikus :)) and thanks for the recipe! You're right, not entirely MB, but you can't have everything you want.:rolleyes: I do like goat milk btw. :o Maybe you could also use soy milk or coconut milk? :confused: For me the turkey sausage would be translated into something soybean .... but you have inspired me for my next pot of pumpkin soup! :D

I'm afraid after bakin' 4 cakes:oops: past few wks...I'm now on STRICTLY diet:oops::))...so..Haiku Cake'll have to wait rather a bit longer, my chum:));).

Mind you, been bakin' a delicious Coconut & Lime Cake yesterday...I love it..so scrumptious:D..gotto cut down my lunch & dinner's calories today;)

Perhaps I forgot to tell you that I'm quite small bone frame:o...= can't carry too many over kgs..it'd be so unfair to my bone:)..don't want to have back problem later on in life...so I've to maintain my weight..used to be size 8;)...now is size 10:p...all these butter, flour, eggs==>def. not MB..and too much's not good for me,:oops:you and anyone:confused:...just so many school cake bakes recently...that's all.
Also I do eat a lot of Dirk's MB ie brown rice, beans, tofu, seaweed each wk..which def. improve my health and well-bein' for all in my family:D..thanks Dirk:).

Yeah, I totally understand about weight problems ..... :oops: Been there, done that .... so to speak. You're absolutely right about taking care of your health as much as possible. :cool:

Still have to lose a few kilos myself, so I'm afraid, however delicious any cake might be, I cannot afford to eat it either at the moment ...:cry::cry::cry: ... in spite of all the goodies of the festive season, I'll have to decline. So I am diligently cooking MB at the moment, which is a good thing, of course. :D Any favourite MB recipes to share :confused: .... all are welcome! ;)

Howdy?...this am, today I make simple v lite & healthy dish for my lunch not sure 100% MB or not:confused:..but I know it'd def. be yummy;)..with boil egg noodles, dice cooked tofu, fermented tofu paste;), soy sauce, dash of sesami oil, pepper added with green veg and garnished with coriander or spring onion, tiny squeeze of lemon or lime..Voila:D..it's my own experiment recipe:)...pls try.you'll love it;)...Happy Eater:))

Made that recipe yesterday evening and added some diced cooked chicken to it.
