LEGEND SOCCER COMPANY
Do you like soccer (or, as the rest of the world calls it, football)? Dirk does in a big way, and it has become a family affair.

Dirk's son Roland and 2 friends have started Legend Soccer Company,  developing innovative, sustainable soccer gear (and only soccer gear). Learn about Legend Soccer Company at the link above. Dirk not only endorses Legend Soccer, he's involved with it - "and not only because Roland is my son."

Default More languages, more wishes

Hi friends!!
I was thinking that, as we are sharing international recipes and traditions, we can share also different wishs in different languages: English, German, Spanish, Dutch, slangs, etc..

I will be the first one:

BUON NATALE = marry Christmas
TANTI AUGURI = Best wishes
BUONE FESTE= happy (Xmas) holidays
BUON ANNO NUOVO = happy new year

I hope to read wishes in your languages too (also in English.. different ways to wish in different countries..) in order to be prepared to use an approppriate expression for each of you at Christmas!!

sara,

I can only say Happy Christmas in two languages, French and English. French being "joyeux noel".

I can however say Happy New Year in Chinese. "Gung Hei Fat Choy".
When I was a little girl my Dad was in the Irish Guards and was stationed in Hong Kong for two years ( my sister was born in Kowloon on the Chinese mainland ). I would run around the house at Chinese New year yelling 'Gung Hei Fat Choy!!" over and over.

Or so my Mum tells me

Hi, Saraa, great idea!!
Sorry for the other posts, "Christmas", etc.. but I don't respond now because there is much to read for me, I must go very slowly..but tomorrow yes.
Tracy, nice that you explain.
I put the words in spanish and in my maternal language, catalan.

 In spanish:
FELIZ NAVIDAD = Marry Christimas
LOS MEJORES DESEOS = best wishes
BUENAS FIESTAS = happy (Xmas) holidays
FELIZ AÑO NUEVO or PRÓSPERO AÑO NUEVO = happy new year

 In catalan:
BON NADAL = Marry Christmas
ELS MILLORS DESITJOS = best wishes
BONES FESTES = happy (Xmas) holidays
BON ANY NOU = happy new year

A less day for december and its Christmas.
Happy day.

Sorry to bring it down to a common denominator, but in the midlands you will hear, 'Merry Christmas mate / luv, Av a gud un'

Translated as 'Merry Christmas my friend / my love have a good one'

( a Good one means is short for have a good holiday or christmas...)

I forgot to mention what Happy New Year is in German.
Here's one of the sayings...

Happy New Year - einen guten Rutsch! (ins Neujahr)

Germans say things always longer and more complicated!

*One of the longest words in the word which is in the Guiness Book of world records is a German word and is about 82 characters long!*

Awww, that's cute Jules, give your daughter a big hug! I even understood it, although my French is very rusty after 25 years of not using it.
