ISP emails now required for registration

Greetings, all!

We have some new registration requirements we need all new members to know about.

We regret to announce that, beginning with this announcement, in order to register here at Dirk's Works, we require the use of an ISP email address.

ISP = Internet Service Provider. This is the company you pay to provide you with your internet access. Here in the US, examples are Comcast, Cox, Verizon, etc.

"Freebie" emails such as Yahoo, Hotmail, Gmail (or "Googlemail") will be rejected automatically.

This decision was not made lightly. We realize what an inconvenience this causes. But this decision was forced on us by some very clever criminals who wanted to use our forum to sell illegal pharmaceuticals and pornography. We have been inundated by these false registrations, which means we must manually examine and approve every single registration; we have been obliged to block these email address domains, if for no other reason than to preserve our sanity.

So, effective with this announcement, you will need to use either your ISP email or work email to register your membership. Once approved, though, we can talk...

A note to existing members: this does not affect you in any way. You will continue to be able to log in using your existing information.

I've recently realized that some additional information about the registration process may be useful to the folks who are trying to become members here.

Registrations are evaluated every evening, Pacific Time. So for time zones in the east or Europe, if you registered today you may not see a response until tomorrow morning. But I promise, all registrations will get a response.

It is important to note that the responses to all registrations are sent from the web domain, dirkbenedictcentral.com. What this means is that if you have an overzealous spam filter, the note welcoming you (or explaining a problem) may get shunted to your junk mail folder. I strongly suggest that after you register you keep an eye on that folder, even if you have to log into your ISP's "remote" email access to find that folder. I'd hate to have you think we turned you away when we didn't!
