After watching the pilot I was anxiously awaiting the series. I turned on the tv set and the first episode was titled The Children of Jamestown. Something was different, a familiar voice. Then I noticed, holy frack, it was Starbuck, Dirk Benedict in the flesh. I knew they made the right choice because this character was right up Dirk's ally. A down to Earth version of the same character he played on BG. Face-Man was a ladies man so was Starbuck, Face was a cigar smoker like Starbuck. Face. In one episode face is pardoned but it is a scheme by the government to trap a Vietnamese warlord. Face writes his memoirs titled "Pecking away at the system," and leaves his teammates out of the book.
B.A: Hannible you aren't even in the book.
Fortunately for Face, Hannible smells this as a trap and he is rescued by the team after being captured by the warlord.
In another episode face is on a mission to guard a government witness. It turns out that the man is actually his father who swears Murdock to secrecy stating that he will tell Face when the time is right. Unfortunately he dies before telling him leaving Murdock in a sticky situation. This episode reminded me of the Man With Nine Lives one when Chameleon told Cassi to keep mum.
Dirk wanted to play the character as played in the first four seasons, not as hunk but a rogue. The script writers decided to change face into a hunk and now the character seemed boring.
What many don't realize is that Steven Cannell fought to aquire Dirk for the role of Templeton Peck. N.B.C like A.B.C didn't want him. Good thing he stuck to his guns because I couldn't imagine The A-Team without Dirk Benedict.
