"Alive and Kicking tells the inspirational and very moving story of the extraordinary significant events in the life of (she says) an ordinary insignificant English woman.
Julie K. Sallis has been ill to some degree or another throughout her life.
"It feels as though my whole life has been like one long boxing match, with each event, illness or incident equating to one two-minute round", she says.
However, after discovering macrobiotics by chance in February 2007, as a result of a friend of hers hearing the actor Dirk Benedict talking about it on Celebrity Big Brother, Julie has finally been able to rid herself of all the symptoms and ailments that had plagued her for decades within the space of just a few weeks.
Miracle, or just the power of food?
Read the book. You decide."

First page I went to were the recipes - and her opening paragraphs sound just like me! :)) I've made chicken chili to die for, and then tried something "new" with it and had to throw it out :p But at least I know, now.

I do think it's wonderful that she was able to find her way out of the morass of illness - and that she was willing to *try*. I've had so many people dismiss the foodstyle I've chosen, and when I ask if they've tried it, in any way, shape or form, they say no. They just "know" it's poppycock. My brother was that way until he saw how much weight I was losing, how much better I was feeling - now he's actually discussing various foods with me, and eating what I prepare! :o

Anyway - yet another example of how Dirk has changed people's lives for the better, just because he had the guts to stand up for and speak out on what he believes in. :)

I just received the book a few days ago and have started reading.
Julie, the author, has asked me to write a "review" once I am finished.
So far, it's interesting :)
