Well, my son is flying in from LA tonight, arriving in Minneapolis around midnight. My brother is going to pick him up and bring him down to Spring Valley. And, of course, it just happens that we'll be in the middle of a winter storm warning - 4-8 inches of snow predicted, with high winds. Worst of all, I'll be at work (if I can get there) and my cell phone doesn't work inside the plant, so I know I'll be constantly running outside to call my brother and see if everything's okay.
I love Minnesota...NOT!

xx and best wishes to you for Christmas.

PS so humbled and glad you shared some of your memories with us about your mom - 8) and that the 'nudging someone to check if they're still alive' happens more freqently than I thought! :P

I talked to my brother (more like a panicked shouting  ) and he promised if it got bad they would stop at one of the towns on the way and wait it out.
I'm probably worrying too much - but then again, this part of Minnesota is flatter than a pancake with scattered woods - so either the wind blows the snow straight across the roads, forming a very slick surface, or it builds up where it's sheltered. And my brother does have a tendency to be a little too "confident" about his driving.
My mom - she was a very funny little lady. We didn't get along the greatest, though. Seems the harder we tried, the worse it got. But she was special. I miss her a lot.

Well, my son and brother got here with no problem - the storm bypassed us by about 10 miles. I had stayed home from work, based on not wanting to get stuck in Rochester trying to come home, so that was a wasted night off (family didn't get here until about 3:30 in the morning) :x And then Sunday the remainder of the storm did hit, so I lost another night. I can't win.
Just saw my son off - he's spending the afternoon/evening with his dad. His dad drove up and picked him up - kind of strange, seeing him again, if only for a few minutes. Made me feel kinda good (in a bad way) that he looks so much older than I do. he he he But at least he's making an effort with John, and I'm all for that. This is only the second time they've met since John was born.
So, my brother's back in the Cities, and John's off and about, and I have the whole house to myself for the afternoon. Man, is it quiet... 8)
