Have just been checking out this concept of self-health, I guess you could call it. Tried doing some research online but of course, most sites were long on philosophy, short on detail, and immense on having the viewer take their coursework/seminars for $$$. Has anyone delved into this? Any suggestions on objective readings?

Hurrah to you Ostarella! Finally a reply for you - only took a couple of years, never mind!
Perhaps you have found some success in this subject already, if yes, I'd be interested in your findings as I too would like to find out more about ayurvedic ideas on diet.

The first thing is to identify if you are currently imbalanced in your 3 doshas. Then use a diet to rectify the imbalance. I think it is possible to use some of the principals in ayurvedic knowlege alongside macrobiotic, I don' t know if anyone has tried that here?

I've popped this in here as ayurveda and yoga are kinda related?

Yoga and the heart :?

Anyone who has had nerve damage knows that it takes a long time (months to years) for nerves to be repaired (particularly in adults).
Doing yoga stretches and stimulates ones nerves, muscles and ligaments and can thus assist in the repair to nerves. I've certainly felt clear improvements over the few years I've been doing it.

Recent science has shown that 'Nerve growth factor' has a beneficial effect on the heart too.

So now I'm wondering if one of the particular benefits of yoga might be to increase the amount of nerve growth factor in the body which in turn benefits the heart?

I know lots of you will say that exercise of any kind is good for the heart, but this science tidbit has once again sparked off a thought in me that perhaps specific exercise techniques might stimulate specific hormones or proteins in the body, which might then go on to have further beneficial effects. What some people call 'chi' energy or 'chakras' might in part be part of the stimulation of growth/repair homones throughout the body on a regular basis?

Oh well, its all just pure speculation on my part - well the extrapolation from the science facts is  !
