Well, I read this a couple days late, but I still have turkey in the fridge so I suppose the cut off hasn't come yet.

Happy Thanksgiving, Canada!

Hey BC Gal just out of curiosity what area of BC are you from? I am near Vancouver.

I am in Port Moody. Not far from you. It is always nice to meet someone else new on this site.

I'm in Victoria, Denise. We seem to have a solid west coast representation. :D

Port Moody, just down the highway from me! We'll have to have a BC Dirk convention sometime and travel over to Victoria ;-)

Did you go to Gatecon a couple of years ago when Dirk and Richard Hatch were here in Vancouver? I am still KICKING myself that I never went :( probably my only chance ever to meet DB.

I remember looking into it. It was an obscene amount of money, at least on my budget, and they never narrowed down when the boys would show. I honestly didn't want to spend an entire weekend moseying around the con, so I passed.

I suppose if I had known other crazy BSG fans that were going I would have been more motivated.

Someone I know on the BSG list told me Dirk was in her neck of the woods for a Con, and she ended up running into him in a local drinking hole, and chatting and sharing a cigar with him.

Wow, how cool would that be to just run into him somewhere like that? I heard about the convention on the radio and I'm pretty sure they announced which day DB would be there. But you're right, the prices were quite high. And for you coming over from the island, the ferry, staying somewhere, definitely the costs add up. Since DB would be the only reason I would go to the convention I would have felt a little lost anyway! I'm sure I could have conned my husband into coming with me 8) But just coming along, knowing I'm there to drool over Dirk, probably would've thrown him over the edge teehee.

Yeah, my husband has made more than one comment about me spending yet another evening with Starbuck when I start writing. :D

Ah our poor husbands, How can they compete? :? When I have kids would I be considered a bad mom if I said "sorry sweetie, I can't read you a story, I've got some writing to do" ?? :P

Thankfully, there are hours that kids are in school, or bed, that can be devoted to writing. And my kids play well at the ages they're at--4 and 6--so I occasionally even get to plunk away at the keys during the daylight hours.

Life is about balance, and having something you can call your own is a big one for me. When the kids were really small, I almost felt like a piece of me had disappeared and had been replaced by being a Mom. Now I know how important it is to do something for just me. Writing has become my escape/ my challenge/ and my intellectual reward. Oh, and it's fun!

I've always felt that way about writing as well and I'm quite happy to be delving back in to it. My husband and I want to start a family soon so I know sacrifices will have to be made. But I like that I'll be able to escape into my writing every once in a while (ok, maybe not with a newborn in the house!) and I bet being a mom makes you even more creative! :P

Hi BC Gal and Lisa, I did go to the con a few years ago. I took my chances on the day and figured even if I get to see him for a minute ( as long as I didn't drool tooo much :D ) it was better than nothing. I talked with him got him to autograph my copy of his book and I paid to have my picture taken with him. If he is ever in town again we should definetly go to see him. I remember when we were having the picture taken we were talking and he was reminded about a story. He had to stop talking while the picture was taken but, when he tried to continue they told me I couldn't stay because of the long line. He apologized to me and said he would continue if we ever met again. I want to hold him to that. Although I don't remember what the story was about we talked mainly about healthy kids his and mine they are similar ages and play the same instruments. I will never forget it. Richard signed my program he is soooo nice. The programs were supposed to be signed for free but, Boomer wouldn't sign mine unless I purchased one of his pictures Richard saw this and offered right away. Keep your eyes and ears open I am going if he comes back.
