I remember Dirk saying in an interview that the director of the film - I forget who it is - insisted on realism in the wife-beating scenes; meaning poor Twiggy was enduring some actual pain in some of the scenes.

Well, they are actors and is what it touches to them sometimes

OMG! Now that's what I call suffering for your art. I hope she didn't have too much pain.
I'll have this clip for now but will have to wait for Christmas to buy it - argghhhhh!!!!

Dirk looks sweet, young and innocent but I guess that makes it more frightful when the villain hasn't got that black moustache to twist.

I got the tape of this some time ago but have never had a chance to watch it. Now youtube has a clip (I couldn't find the one listed earlier here) so I checked that out. I admired Dirk's acting before, but after watching just this bit, well, he was damn scary. I mean

Thank you for the link, Osterella. Dirk is incredible, in that scene. I've just watched it twice and still feel shaken. The different expressions, on his face...and the timing...brilliant. Wish I could see the whole film.

Yes.

This move was very good.
Dirk did a very good job of portraying an abusive shell shocked vietnam vet husband.
Twiggy was good too in one of her first movie roles.

I believe she's his ex.

I really have to put aside some time to watch that tape... :?

Thanks, for answering my query. :D Seriously..and I'm not, being daft or gushing...the clip I saw on Youtube...I think that Dirk is absolutely BRILLIANT. He manages..even in THAT, situation, to look vulnerable, endearing, childlike, stunningly attrtactive, animalistic, likeable, loathesome , evil and absolutely terrifying...in the space of a matter of seconds. NONE of that, is hammy, nor to much...which is a trap many actors, would have fallen into. It's obvious, that he's an experienced stage actor and a very, very good one. Dirk has never, been - as I read somewhere a while ago, " ...a pretty boy". The looks, are a bonus. I left my ex husband, after such violence. Believe me..Dirk, got it right. What you see with Dirk, in his acting, always, rings true. To be able to suspend disbelief, is not, what many actors can do..even if they act well. For example..at no time, in ' Silence Of The Lambs', did I forget that it was Anthony Hopkins born near here in Pontrhydyfen..even though I think he's a terrific, actor. Whereas from my, perspective..Dirk is..who ? He's not, Starbuck...although Starbuck is closer I reckon than Face. To me..Dirk is..Hamlet, Iago, Starbuck and lts, more. Sorry, about the long post.

Hi Anne..thank you. :D I hope that Dirk knows, that we know, how good an actor he is...I really do. Am off out, now. If you see Dirk before I get back on line tomorrow Anne, be sure to tell him - OK ? Come to think of it...don't see Dirk, until I get back ! Aaargh ! :D :D :D Oh..and just in case you do...you are not allowed to keep him there because he is due in Holland, soon...and THEN, you would have some explaining to do to Dwight !!!

Hi!!
I agree with you, too, Genny.
Dirk is a very good actor, hisfaces, his movements when he's acting, his expressions, etc..For all this in "W" he has a good performance, I think.
Good afternoon!

"W" is available on Amazon.co.uk but only in Region 1 format, I think.

I never have understood why Dirk has been overlooked by the powers-that-be in Hollywood - unless he was too much of a free-spirit. He was, (and still is), utterly gorgeous and very compelling to watch. Perhaps he's too intelligent, outspoken and politically incorrect for his own good. They had a red hot property and ignored it. Clearly the idiots preferred men who were more malleable and compliant - or desperate!

What does the ' W ' stand for ? I've been wondering for a while !

Maybe "William", the name of Dirk's character? Don't know for sure - haven't found an explanation myself (unless it's explained in the movie and I haven't had a chance to watch it yet)

Thanks ! You could be right.... Will have to try to get a copy to find out for sure. It would be interesting to hear talk about the film. Dirk looks great, in the clip..1974,,,so he must have been 29. :D

Arciris

Yesss, he was 29 :P but still is a young man now, because his heart have young spirit  .

Yes please ! :D :D Would love, to hear about it. Saw a programme about Twiggy on the Biography channel yesterday when I was writing letters. She said that she met her first husband Michael Whitney on that film in which he also acted. She also said that it wasn't a very good film. Did she not see, Dirk, I wonder ??!!

Great ! Am thinking of sending off for a cpy too, 'cos will never, get one here otherwise. I'd love, to see the film. Think I'll go for it, tomorrow. I'm so glad that you've inspired me to order USA copies. I ordered ' Sss' and ' Alaska', from Playtrade but they e mailed me, saying that my card details were incorrect. Going to phone them, in the morning - so that I can check, then, that they have the correct information. Am waiting for ' Mark Of The Devil', from Amazon. ' Blue Tornado' arrived and was fine, so it should be OK. :D :D :D :D

I took a quick look at Amazon.uk and sure enough, they have four used copies listed, but the picture is not "our" movie. I would suggest contacting the seller and verifying that it not only is the movie with Dirk, but that it is *not* this martial arts movie, before ordering. Many times sellers will post a picture of what they have, and then copy/paste the "official" description from the web, and they don't bother to make sure it's the same movie. eBay (USA) has three VHS copies, and it's usually very quick and easy to verify with eBay sellers, as they don't want to get tossed off or get a bad review. So that's another avenue to check out. It probably will be easier to get the right thing if you do go with VHS, frankly. Almost all of my copies are VHS, and they seem to be of as good a quality as those on DVD, frankly. They all come from the same master...
