I would love to go to the Motor City Comic Con and meet Dirk!!!...I live in Western Maryland and driving the 7-8 hours wouldn't be a problem. I did the 6-7 hours drive to Ocean City, MD for the past 5-7 years; my nieces would go there for dance competitions. But, unfortunately, as my luck usually goes...it's not going to happen ( funds and timing-bad)...and Dirk will most likely never be this close again!!!...This really bites!!!...

To all of you able to attend...and meet Dirk...please get lots of pictures and let those of us misfortunate ones know ALL about it!!!...Best wishes to all of you and have a great time!!!...

And to Dirk...my very sincere, warmest wishes to you and your family, always...

Sincerely,
Christy

Have faith Christy!
For example, the people in Australia and NZ didn't think he'd ever come to their neck of the world and he'll be in both countries this fall!
It depends on what conventions invite him to come and where they are located. It may surprise you that maybe one day Dirk will be in your area!
:D

Thank you so very much, I greatly appreciate it!!!...I really needed some inspiration! And you're right, maybe someday he will visit my area...anything is possible!!!...Then again, I did tell a couple of close friends of mine that I'd probably start crying, or pass out, or both, when / if I ever get to meet Dirk! (blushing emoticon goes here) My sincere warmest wishes to you Tracy and also to Dirk and his family, always.

Thanks again,
Keeping the faith,
Christy

I was able to attend & had a wonderful time! I heard both he & Dwight Schultz speak together about their days with the "A-Team," as well as get autographs & photos taken!
It was great to see all the other actors/actresses, but Benedict was my favorite guest by far! :D
here's a link to one of the photos (not sure if it's ok to post photos here): http://photos14.flickr.com/14031559_4ff04fb769.jpg

I also got to go to the Motor City Comic Con - a series of firsts - first long driving trip (on my own!), first trip to Michigan, first time getting lost in Chicago (will never go near that city again!), and of course, first time meeting Dirk. I was able to chat for a few minutes with him on both Saturday and Sunday and he was ever so nice (although by Sunday his voice was getting a touch hoarse from talking to soooo many people. I wasn't there Friday but Saturday he had the longest line of anyone for autographs, and it looked like it on Sunday, too.). I could have sat and listened to him and Dwight go back and forth for hours! For example, Dwight, (who is having shoulder surgery in the next month or so) told Dirk he was willing the metal ball to him; Dirk's response was then he'd always have a shoulder to lean on...well worth the 12 hour drive!

"Dirk's response was then he'd always have a shoulder to lean on."

**sniff, sniff** That is so sweet! :-) Glad you guys had a good time. Next time I'm definately going to have to go. Unfortunately, some of us around here were under the wether a bit this weekend which is one of the reasons for me not going. Oh well...

Tracy, just keep us informed when he'll be out this way again.:-)

Julie

BTW....anymore pics from anyone? Reports? (the "Grease" theme song is starting to play in my head) "Tell me more, tell me more....." hahaha

Glad to see some made it to Novi and had a chance to see Dirk. :D
Thanks scifichick for posting your links to the pics and such :D
And Julie....he's tentatively scheduled to be back in Detroit March 2006.
Details on that appearance are still developing :D

Hi, Richard Hatch has mentioned that there is going to be a Convention in Sydney, Australia, the weekend of March 17th 2006 and I was just wondering if there is any word on whether Dirk might be attending?

The depressing part is that the weekend mentioned is the start of the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne to which I have a number of tickets! I'm not sure how to be in two places at once!!!

[size=24]I've been volunteering at MegaCon in Orlando, for the past 7 years. It's so much fun, it's like a vacation.
So far, I've meet Richard hatch, Noah Hathaway, and Boomer (Herbert Jefferson Jr.).

Lots of fun. It seems since the new BSG came out, there is more interest in the old series.
It would be great if the whole cast of BSG would show up.

Also, a few time the whole cast of Lost In Space showed up. It was nice to see the cast together in one place, maybe that could happen with BSG??????

If you're working the con, could you request him (Dirk)? Or... find out who we have to contact to request him.

Tracy said that the cons have to request his presence, and if his schedule and circumstances permit, he can attend.

I met Herb Jefferson Jr, Noah Hathaway (he signed my toy daggit) and Bill Mumy at the last one I went to two years ago. That was awesome!

Dirk seems to have a lot of up comming convention s coming our way. if you want to visit http://kamikazeworld.tripod.com/ and stop buy the news section. You can link up to the main web pages for everyone of Dirk's latest conventions. Times and schedules are listed on the convetions main pages . Found out Dwight will be joining him for the uk convetion. and the arkansas convention is titled big cruise in the rock. why two titles ? who knows? welcoming everyone to kamikazeworld! :D

As the fans in the uk know that Dirk is coming in May along with Dwight to our shores.
Now I have been to book signings before (met Terry Prachett an author who is lovely by the way)
But have never been to something that will be so major as the collectormania thing.
I will be going alone (that doesn't bother me) but i suppose i am asking what the general ambience is like etc because once off the bus train or whatever I will be a little nervous as I am going solo. Also If I do get to met Dirk I will be nervous, not only because of who he is but because of doing the live update things on Big Brother . You do hear some (personal )things, ie I wrote down about his near plane crash for example. I mean how do you approach somebody who you saw asleep in bed and giggled at but you can't share the joke? I suddenly feel a bit weird, since I'm pretty private myself.
Any Tips Please?

Well, I'm sure he knows that a lot of people there will have seen him in CBB, so I wouldn't let it make you feel 'strange'. If it were me, I'd come right out with it and mention how odd it feels to meet him in person, that kind of thing. Step over the puddle and get on with the rest of it, in other words. He's just as gracious and funny in person as he was in CBB, so you'll probably both have a  type laugh over it. :D

Thank you for answering that Ostarella, thats good of you. As I promised to myself that this year I was going to do a 'convention' I 've got great mates but they are not into the same thing as i am. And if you want to do somethings in life you alone have to go out and make the effort.

Re stepping over the puddle - as long its not of my own making!!!
Only kidding thanks again.

And if you want to do somethings in life you alone have to go out and make the effort.

Definitely. After my mother passed away, I no longer had any family to take care of (father already gone, son 3000 miles away) so I wanted to travel, as I'd never had the chance. Then I saw Dirk was going to be in Detroit (about 8 hours away) so I took the plunge and used that as my "excuse" for my first solo trip. (Would you believe I had never even checked into a hotel on my own before that? ) That went so well that when he was in Vancouver, I decided to use him as the next "excuse" (is that pathetic or what?!) So a three day trip, sleeping in the car, through the mountains... but I did it! You are soooo right - you can't wait for other people to help you do things - you have to take the bull by the horns and hope you have a soft landing

Lily
03-14-2007, 05:34 PM
Its sad but comforting that we actually share, that similar view. Its odd that berevement, a sense of loss can turn that tide. My own darling mum also passed away when I was 13, and when a parent dies a sense of 'you' goes with them, then you need to regrow, to replace that significant loss in my opinion. I am not exactly tackling the Himalayas, but I have the 'courage' (which is not the right word as such) to go and do things for myself.
I must admit how shocking the fact of death is and I've lost all my family members, and I am still young (ish) but on the other hand I feel i am more of a complete person than a lot of others, because i had to learn, and accept lifes issues and have been lucky not to go off the rails.
Oh *wags finger* Don't say pathetic!! If Dirk is the excuse for you to take that trip in a car to do something. Good..Its an experience that nobody can take away from you.

I am also a bit sad tonight, because a childhood hero of a lot of thirty somethings in the uk has passed away.

Blimey! Where were we? convention listings...

Collectormania are still advertising Dirk as coming its not been taken off their website.

And to be honest maybe it is best to let the furore die down still, BB is still rumbling on. about more incidents (Check the forums if you are still interested  )
BB8 will possibly start 3rd week in May ,and then the tabloids can go ape over them.

Previous members ie Rula Lenska, its died down for them although George galloway will never live down the cat incident (which i can never view for a second time) But it hasn't stopped him being an MP.

I'm sad that he has cancelled. I would have liked to get his autograph. My friend and I were going to go but since Dwight and James Marsters would be our only mutual interests, I don't really see much point now.

I hope he has not cancelled due to big brother because he came across really well. He is not considered part of the race row at all. I think the majority of people in Britain thought he was funny and interesting. Many only watched because of him.

Hats, thats true, he was the only reason that alot of people watched Big Brother, me included, I really got hooked when he was doing the household chore thing where he and the others had to wait hand and foot on the Goodys, his charm, wit and humility got me hooked from then on. :D

I really hope the whole CBB episode hasn't put him off the UK for good - there really are an awful lot of people here who really appreciated Dirk's wicked sense of humour and of course his stunning good looks! - hope he manages to return to our shores soon.

We're not all mad Dirk - honest!

Genny
03-19-2007, 04:15 PM
It's such a pity that he met quite a few people no one, would want to meet, on CBB. The agenda of the programme seemed to me to be to put real celebs down and originally, to enable Jade Goody to win. I had a letter from the programme makers company this morning. They'd told people who'd phoned in when there was a complete mess up ie wasted money, to contact them for a refund. I did. The letter asks me to send my telephone bill. No way -that's private. They also addressed the letter to ' Chelsie' as a forename. That's nothing like my name. So I shall write to them, saying a few things....I don't mind about the money, providing that it goes to charity. I would love to know, unless it concerns family reasons, if Dirk is so put off the UK that he'll never come back -or not. For example, would he work here if it was a good opportunity. The group of people on CBB was most definitely not, representative of the British people.

And dont forget Big Brother made a special commendation for Dirk's execution of his housekeepers duties. Proof that his claim that manual labour is good for the soul in a world where most jobs just involve shuttling pieces of paper from one desk to another.

Hi everyone! :D
I think Dirk acted admirably through the whole BB thing.
And, I can honestly say I have met people that have come from England, Ireland and they are a lovely people.
I think the chief turn off for Dirk was how Cleo acted. What Cleo said about his son was uncalled for!
I am still angry about that! :x
I think that BB may have affected Dirk more than he himself realized and is still recovering from it.
He'll probably return to the UK at some later date, after all the brouhaha has died down.
That's my opinion anyway.

take care,
Anne :)

Lily
03-20-2007, 05:22 AM
You may be right, after all we still get stories from ex BB contestants saying its ruined their lives. I watched it way back in 1999 when the first two series, let things go more naturally, they had tasks over a whole week etc, and they were allowed reading material etc. Only a few contestants treated it as it really was a gameshow. (mostly men) 'nasty' Nick because he lied to get sympathy ,good ploy but backfired in bb1 and Victor and Jason in series 5, And of course Dirk himself had mentioned it is only a game.

A few has shown genuine talent, and gone on quietly and do well. And the rest fade into obscurity. And I can't help thinking that is very difficult, one day to find yourself working back in a clothes shop because you didn't make it. (imagine the comments -didn't you do that bb thing and look at you now etc)
I assume its the opposite for Dirk , he maintained his regular fans and gained a hell of a lot more, personally i'd have scooted back home too. How difficult is that- I just can't imagine.
Any how Love Light and Peace xxx

No you are not being crazy I can see your point, both are incredibly watchable and our jaws dropped when they both entered, Jack Dee/ Dirk Benedict wow  . Both likeable and Jack deserved to win and did. To the rest of you not familiar with Jack Dee he is a comedian, that specailises in grumpy kind of stand-up and he acts too.

It's the curious nature in me I guess.
I watched BB solely because of Dirk. :D
Do check out YouTube they have some unseen footage of BB.
You can search under Dirk Benedict for example.
I drank some green beer on St. Patrick's Day. Just one though, it looks weird!
Yep, we celebrate it in Canada.
I found out that I have a distant Irish relative! a fifth cousin.
So that would make me German/Candian/Scottish/Irish!

Who's Jack Dee?
It's the curious nature in me I guess.
I watched BB solely because of Dirk. :D

Try Youtube, they may go back to the first Celeb BB. I suggest if Dirk has to blame anyone it's Jack  He is a comedian over here, whos career was good before he entered, was very funny, tried to escape twice I think, is married with children. And never wants to talk about Cbb again, although it was very successful for him.
Hes very dour and sarcastic in his delivery and can be a bit too clever, but on occasion i have found him funny. ( He isn't as photogenic as Dirk tho)

Love light and peace as Spike Milligan used to write (an he was inspiration for Monty Python who Dirk adores( I think) -wondered if hes listened to the Goon Show)

I used to sit close to the radio when I was about five, to listen to the Goon show ! I wonder if Dirk has ever heard it...I think he said he liked Dudley Moore, too ..was it the 'Arthur' films he mentioned on CBB..Think so.

You know I have never seen a convention for the Goon show, and it was off its rocker and everyone has heard of Peter Sellers, there must be appreciation society some where. IT COULD EVEN BE IN MILTON KEYNES!!!

Well St Patricks Day, the parade in Dublin was fantastic as usual, but there was snow and a high wind on Sun, when there was supposed to be a fireworks display of course it was cancelled. You just cannot depend on the weather here, always so wet, had 5 days off couldnt get out for walk any day. Anne, I wouldnt touch anything green even on St Pats Day could be lethal
Anyway that was about it dont drink so I cannot even get drunk, thats often the best thing fr a cold wet St Pats.

Never mind, I prefer hot chocolate anytime. Just wait till the 23 April where the majority won't care whether its A St Georges day or B Shakespears Birthday.

Oh we've wandered again haven't we.
Shall I start a Waffle thread?
Might do.
If nobody else minds.

Good morning this is my first post on this forum and I would just like to say - lucky you.

This weekend is Collectormania in England and we were all ready to go to see Dirk and Dwight. Then, of course, they cancelled. :x :x Much wailing and gnashing of teeth.

So when you get to see Dirk, would you please pass on a message from his UK fans and say how much we are looking forward to seeing him here sometime soon, I know that I am speaking on behalf of many people. Thank you

Good morning again! All the new members are dropping in in the morning haha!

It's not fair that I live in a complete different part from Holland... with no driver licence...
I saw yesterday during the A-Team broadcast that Dwight and Dirk will come to Holland...

They will also appear in a live show called Jensen on tv... that is going to be fun... because that guy is nut's and asks really strange question's. I never watch his show. But I will do it on Friday (I believe it was on Friday)

And they have a videochat on www.rtlboulevard.nl at 19.30 friday evening, Dutch time, i'm not familiar with the several time lines :(
But I don't have a webcam...

Any way, I just wanted to let you guy's know this, maybe you can hang in with the video chat ;-)

I feel sad for the people in Holland that aren't got to get to meet Dirk. :(
I myself wish I was there this weekend. I don't have the money for the trip right now.
I'm going to Europe next year.
I'd say keep on an eye on the convention listings, they might come again to your country. :D
I'm waiting for Dirk to come to Canada.

:D :D :D I went to the Dutch Star Con yesterday. And I am so happy I could sing, but I will spare you...

So what's my story. Well last week I sent a self made postcard and a letter to the hotel where DB was staying. I had asked the organisation of the Star Con how to sent something and more important: where to. They said: the hotel where the Con is held. So I emailed the hotel and they answered: that might be possible. So I made a postcard by using an internetsite from the Dutch post-company. Used a Yin and Yang with the words Dirk wrote 3 years ago in his book Confessions while autographing it for me on another Star Con here in the Netherlands. (see the signature of this post)Are you still with me? How sure it was that he would get it, I did not dare to even hope it might work. But I did it.

So yesterday went first with husband and my two kids (I asked it as a Mothers day present!) to the Q&A and it was great. Dirk and Dwight (Schultz ofcourse) did an intire stand up comedian act, making fun of commercials, A-team, etc. And answered some questions from fans. Then the photoshoots. You could get a picture with them with an A-team-van but that's not the reason why I am a fan. I like his writing and so on. So I went for a picture with Dirk. Because getting a picture with the two of them wasn't that much more expensive, I choose to do that. After waiting a little while it was my turn. And so there I was, smack in the middle of Face and Murdock! You now, I really was asking myself before the picture was taken: how do you pose with a famous person. Let alone two? Do you grab them by the waist? Do you just stand there and let it all happen to you, and let them grab you ( ) ? And how nervous would I be. Well, I wasn't nervous. And I went up there and they just joined me side-by-side, put their arms around me and I automaticaly grabbed them around the waist! Hello: I AM HOLDING DIRK!!!

And then I knew I had to say something to know if he got my mail... So I said thanks for autographing his book 3 years ago, and said the line he used then, What I also had put on the card. Oh, that was you! You sent me that stuff. A little card. YES, that was me! Prove: he got it! I am in seventh heaven.

The photo I received an hour later and it is great. I am going to put it here in my home"office" where I have my computer etc. (Do not know the right word, Study maybe?)

So there's my story. I know I can share this with you all. Most of my family and friends don't get it. You know?

Ingra, Thanks. It is the arrival photo taken last thursday. It has been on the site from Dutch Star Con for half a day and I was wise enough to immediately download it to my computer. After a few hours or so they changed it into a photo from Dirk and Dwight.
So I did not make it myself but... Thanks again.

Well I could show you my picture with a smile ear-to-ear but I do not know if there is an area here to upload it. Yes I felt very comfy between those two. I am 1 m 59 small so you can imagine me being sandwiched ( ) between those two taller guys. A friend of mine just all of a sudden realised how tall they are. She is just as small as I am. On TV you can't tell. Like Richard Dean "MacGyver" Anderson is 2 meters tall! Actrices that are small are standing on crates when they have a face-to-face scene with Rick! Hell, they would have to lift me up with a crane to look into his eyes! (With a net to catch me after I have melted and fainted  )

hai DBUKFAN: No there is nothing wrong with being small. I definately feel like a good thing... Thanks for all the compliments on behalf of al Dutch people. I guess it is one of the reasons American actors like coming here. We are laid-back. Liberal??? Well some us of are.
When I look at how easy the Q&A with Dirk en Dwight went, how relaxed all the fans were. No histerical dramatic scenes of crying fans who: a-a-a-at la-a-a-st met their f-f-f-favorit a-a-actor   No offence (do I spell it right?) to all you American fans out there. But I have seen scenes on international TV... :( (Not only from the USA)
We did have one girl on the Star Con. She was like in her early twenties I guess. She was dressed like Seven of Nine from ST Voyager. She was a bit startled and confused but with the way she acted I think she was a bit retarded (I do NOT mean this in a hard or cynical way. I really think there was something different about her. I should now. My son also is a bit different).
They way you describe a mother on her bike with her two kids: Yes that is the way I go around as well. Sometimes even with my big black dog beside the bike as well. One bike, serves four. We even have one parent who goes to school with two children of four years of age (twin boys) on the back. She has an extended bike with two seats behind her! Or a bike we call "bakfiets": a bike with a big crate in front. Some even big enough to carry 4 children. Yes we have one family who come to school every day with 4 kids in "het bakkie" (the crate).
But we go way of topic now. I had a great time. Yesterday framed the photo of me and Dirk and Dwight. It is hanging here in my study now. Looks great, feels great too. And I even look good on teh photo, being very relaxed and happy. My parents in law are here the next 4 days  (Now I can get along with them all right) but they just do not get it, my thing with Dirk. It is sad. I was hoping to be able to share it with some more people. But they have to sleep in my study, so they will look at it the entire time (Mother in law has a sleeping problem. She usually is up and reading for a couple of hours a night. So she claimes). Maybe tonight it will come to them?? I mean: maybe then they will get it. Don't think so however. :?

I can recall a situation with 2 persons from Montana (I don't believe they were family from Dirk) we were at foal brandings in Germany. And we saw an old mare who jumped international and she was still alive and kicking... the lady started to cry if her own child was died. I was quite shocked... crying about a horse who is alive...
We don't act normally like that...

Hoi! (Dutch for Hi!)

Well, I will "talk" in English here, otherwise it is so unfare to the others. Sorry, I do not have more stuff to share, only my two experiences with Dirk. As short as they were, the experiences, it feels as if they were longer. But hey... Having Dirk with his arm around your shoulders, standing hip-to-hip with you... ofcourse time is slowing down. Every micro-second is ingraved in my memory. Even the faint smell of a sigar coming from the right... The Jensen interview I have seen 3 times (still have it on my HDD player. Will KILL husband if he deletes it! ) and I know every punch line there. My favorite seconds are those where Jensen is talking about Dirk being such a ladies man (while in real life, well you all know). And Dirk says: I was on TV!!! Jensen answers: In real life people don't distinguise between the two. Dirk (very outspoken): Well some of us do! Jensen: No they don't! (Dirks face went a bit disappointed at Jensen. You could see him thinking: OK another one of THOSE :? I'd better stop. He does not get it at all.)

Why my favorite moment on Jensen: in the letter I had sent Dirk and which he received Thursday at least (posted it Tuesday) I made my case about appreciating him for the actor he is, as well as for the parent, woodchopper, writer, philosopher he is. So I made him understand quite the opposite from what Jensen was saying. By him crying out: Well some of us do (see the other side of him) I felt, since this was taped on Friday, that Dirk definately had read my letter. My husband says it is wishfull thinking. But I do know that he received it, as he told me himself Sunday. So... There you go!

Greetings, talk to you all later.
Zilfstar
PS: Yes Riding a bike can be dangerous. Especially in Amsterdam with the trams. But Super fast trams???? Never seen it. So very funny to read it is excluded as being High Risc  :D . But it is true: a tram does not make way for a bike. Neither does a train for a car. I know. I've been there. Survived (7 months pregnant) a car-train collision. Yes I was in the car... Did not get a scratch, wound or what ever. Just bruised all over. The baby is now 5 years and loving The A-team (watches the re-runs here and after that probably my DVD's). :!:

Hi Adriana

Thnks for yr offer on ridin' the bike elsewhere...it's ok...U know I'm sometimes just like tourist trap....gettin' excited & v curious of anything when I'm on holiday..I can also ride my bike (with a helmet..a must law in UK) anywhere nr I live which's in rural village, N/W outside London...say so long farewell/Adieu to city lives over 10 yrs ago...quite peaceful and calm atmosphere..which I enjoy life v much when back home.
One funny thing about the Insurance quoting to us that U'll laugh after hearing this, is they came up with kinda silly sentences to put U off the bike, 'U know the Dutch trams driver so slow reaction, by the time they're hooting/belling U guys....it'll be too late, sir...as U're already UNDER his tram'   ...what do U say

For dbukfan;

You want go here on your bike, I want to ride a horse in the UK just like the tv serie 'Black Beauty'. Riding in the beautifull never ending landscapes 8)

Hoi Zilfstar,

But hey... Having Dirk with his arm around your shoulders, standing hip-to-hip with you... ofcourse time is slowing down. Every micro-second is ingraved in my memory. Even the faint smell of a sigar coming from the right...

And you wonder why your hubby would get upset
This would be interesting material for having interesting thoughts, not with you offcourse but with me and Dirk

You know the thing is, we like Dirk and Dwight for all their qualities, not just for being Face and Murdock. Not just for being famous. But also for the person you got to know because of his books ( I don't have them... yet!) and maybe even for BB. You got a sneak preview into his personal live. You can't act 24 hours a day and I don't know how many weeks. I have learned to know several very interesting people over the years and i'm 26 so I will meet more interesting people in time. Not for them in being famous but for them suiting me.
Some people are to short minded to look on a higher level, to forget the famous part and look to the person and talks with the person.
I don't care if Dirk Benedict feels like he is 50, that's only good! Why would you need a red cross and say his real age!

And than there is the jealous part... but hey get over it and enjoy the most remarkeble moments

You know the thing is, we like Dirk and Dwight for all their qualities, not just for being Face and Murdock.

Very true (well, for Dirk, anyway  ). I got "re-interested" in Dirk due to a nostalgia type talk at work, and just out of curiosity looked up some of the stars from tv shows I watched. It wasn't until I learned about his being a single parent that I really got interested in Dirk in particular, because I was also a single parent; his being an actor really was secondary for me. My interest took off from the parenting angle, and his "other jobs" are only what allow me to keep up with him

Well my hubby wasn't really upset! he was happy for me I had the chance to talk to Dirk. And he was thrilled also Dirk had received my card and letter. I have a very nice loving hubby. Wouldn't trade him for Dirk, but we would love (hubby also) to have a nice fire-place talk with the man, with a little whisky and a lot of macrobiotics goodies. Ee do not know any yet, but we will find out when it would come to that (keep on dreaming!)

Oh I could go on and on talking about this! The red cross across his asumed age, Jensen totally going the way I wrote Dirk I hate (not taking him seriously for his writings. He could not even tell what the book was about let alone the title!)
But I have to get my son from school. So talk to you guys later.

How is this for a quote from Dirk: (about writing a book)
I wrote two. If yoy write one book, you rote a book. If you write twe, you are a wriTER! (Big funny smile and emphatis (how do you write it?) on TER)

Tracy, Is there already any news with regards to Dirk mayby visiting the Dutch Star Con this year again? 8) (Or mayby he has not been invited yet).

I can tell by the site from DSC they are already organising things so I was just wondering... would like it to meet him 3th time and have him sign shis second book and/ or the photo made of me, Dirk and Dwight last year. (Looks like this: :P  :P )

I know there have been rumours of Dirk never comming to the Netherlands again  , and with regards to the then pending european cruise I thought it was a logic choice not to go to europe twice (with his kids and all). But now that the european cruise has been cancelled... well my hopes are up. :D :D :D

If not... no problem. Just being curious, that's all.

So far no word on if he's doing anything in Holland this year ( he is going to Collectormania in Manchester in November ) but I'll let you know if that changes.

Holland/Germany/UK have all been so lucky the past few years with him visiting! He's been in Canada like ONCE since 2001! :P

OH! Never mind! I originally though, with huge irony, that Dirk was attending a Dallas con at the same time I was attending a Dallas con . . . an entierly different one.
But I'm presenting at a con in July not June, though it is over the same dates :P

However . . .
Tickets
$269.00

Uhhhhhhhh ok *head desk*
Lord almighty, and to think I complained three years ago that it was be 50.00 to get into a con to get Sean Astin's signature *which I paid! Sean Astin!) 0.0

They have a cheaper price. 99.00, but that includes no autographs at all *sigh*
Ah well.

Lovely irony, he finally comes to Dallas and it's still financially impossible *L*

Hello to All,
on the homepage of FedCon USA I saw that the picture of Dirk is lost.
Here is the link:

http://www.fedconusa.com/main/content/blogcategory/21/83/

Will he not go to this convention? For me it is really too far away but maybe other fans what to see him.

Or maybe just the picture is lost?

There is a thread on the FedconUSA forum by one of the organizers that says that Dirk will not be there just FYI. We were planning on trying to go next weekend, but there have been so many people (not just Dirk ) that have been dropped / replaced for this convention, I don't know what to think.

We don't know what to think either as Dirk did not cancel, but some fans who have inquired as to his status are getting a "Dirk is no longer able to appear" response from the organizers.
My email to Fedcon came back with a blank response.
This appears to be a very disorganized event.:p

*L* I've sent blank e-mails before; in fact, I hate it that you can do that. My e-mail will not send if I have no subject, but if I accidentally hit the send button rather than the attach button, no problem! Blank message away *head desk*
It's probably just crazy the closer it gets to con time.

I'm guessing Dirk won't be there. Given the draw that guests are, I can't think they'd pull him unless they were more than 95% sure he couldn't come.

To bad.

Or not, given going or not going was still up in the air for me and my friend. I'd be fine, Richard is still listed, but I was pulling her in based on Dirk and uhhh yeah, if we'd pre-bought $99.00 tickets and he was a no show, YIKES!

Nice reminder about why it is sometimes better to get tickets at the door *L*

Maybe I can save for Dragon Con then . . .

Or wait . . wedding! *L* I should probably save for that!

Tsk, what kind of behaviour is that then?? :o :o Maybe they realised too late that they had exceeded their budget and were too cowardly to admit it... In any case it's not nice for the fans and won't do anything good for their reputation. :eek: And of course it's an impossible situation for the guests who thought they were invited. Fedcon Germany is not the same as fedcon USA they state that over and over on their web page. Based on some comments by the owners on their fedconusa.com forum I think it is about money, and because of the cancellations 2-3 people ( that admitted it on the forum) have charged back their tickets as credit card companies do allow it under these circumstances before you pick up the tickets at registration, bait and switch like replacing ACDC with a polka band.

It's not just Dirk A LOT of people have been cancelled at the last minute and throughout the planning of this convention.

No joke.
I'm glad I foud out or I'd have had one seriously annoyed friend! :(

But that's why I go to a con to go to a con, not to just see one certain celebrity. Because seriously no one celeb IMHO is worth a con price (exception being Lance Henriksen ;)) unless I get to actually TALK to them, which never happens in today's liness . . . unless no one knows them. Autographs are gravy, but this con just doesn't seem to have had much to justify the price aside from the guests, and all the more prominant ones have been cut.

They also cut James Callis, who is the New Baltar speaking of inexplicably cutting BSG peoples. Maybe they just don't like BSG *LOL* That show New and old seems to have taken the brunt of the "lost guests"

European conventions are alot more friendly, relaxed and fun.

Aw no hey! Our cons are relaxed and fun *shakes fist* Do not insult our cons *L* :P ;)

Actually I think a con is as relaxed and fun as the person attending it. I think they are one of those, they are what you make 'em things 'cause honestly big and small all have their good and bad points.

I agree though that big cons like the San Diego con, Anime Expo, and now even A-kon can be nightmares j (well so I've heard I've only experienced A-kon and the other two are supposed to be twice as big or more so I can't even imagine!)

No kidding. I'm just floored by this. The last tiem I saw guests handled this badly at a con, and this rudely (because seriously NO CALLS returned? WTF!) it was because the entire con was a scam -_-

Not saying this one is, though it is certainly shady, just saying its managment is nearly as bad as mamangement intending to defaud people.

*meh* And it's not jsut bad for the fans, I mean these people cleared tiem int heir lives to be here! I'm sure Dirk and the others had better things to do than deal with this mess -_-

But now I ahve to ask:
Dirk said his bags are packed and he was waiting on a plane ticket.

So if I get him a plane ticket, he'd come to Dallas? I don't have a con but I could rent a spot at the botanical gardens and I'm sure I could get some people together by tomorrow :p
I can cook even cook Macrobiotic meal :)

Seriously though, the (only) upside of all of this is I'm singularly impressed with Aaron's handeling of this. He's showing he's every bit the considerate man I've heard he is.
The offer of an autograph to anyone who sent a SAE and a note swearing to not attend anymore cons from this group was both hysterical revenge and really nice of him.

How awful! Poor Dirk, Richard, Aaron, and esp Anne if she is on her way! And of course to fans. :(

I think I wouldn't pay too much in advance for a con in case the people I wanted to see couldn't come at the last minute - people get flu, family events, calls by Steven Spielberg etc! ;)

I think the MK Collectormania thing last year that Dirk was originally coming to was free entry. Not sure about Nov - too lazy to plan anything yet - don't know if I'll go or not - not got much holiday leave yet! ;) I think in the UK these places make their money from splitting the 'autograph fee' with the 'star' - least I hope some of the 'fee' gets to the 'star' and isn't just straight to the con with a fixed attendance fee to the star! :o I'm not phishing for info - that's not my business!

Anyhow - I think a lot of UK people just don't wanna spend equiv of $250 just for 'entrance'. :o LOL - London theatres complain coz Londoners won't spend £40 on tickets - just the tourists do that! Last Dirklings Day Out in London - we all brought snacks and had a gr8 picnic at Tate Modern - must be getting old - 'I'm not paying those prices for sandwiches'! etc  Right, enough price grumps from me.

Hope all goes well with everyone!

*L* I'll get right on that! :p
After all, how much harder could planning that be than planning a wedding?

. . .which is why I happen to know how much it costs to reserve places in the botanical garden. I mean hey if we can keep this at 25 people I we can get the Japense Gardens for around 200.00 for two hours *LOL*

I also know catering costs and rentals for like everywhere in DFW and we can have some lovely floral arrangements for cheap too :))

The show was shut down today and cancelled. WOW.*nods* I saw that.
Did you see people were saying that most of the guests who did come ended up being there probono for the fans, and that many stayed after the con was shut done do autographs and such?

Talk about putting yourself out there. Wow. Hats off to those guys. I guess if you are stuck at a lousy con you make the best of it!

And did you see the message from Fedcon Germany?
Oh man are they not happy!

Well the upside of all of this is a may still get an autographed picture of Aaron for my boyfriend.

The downside is gosh darn it I was so looking forward to Dirk and Richard coming. I hope everyone knows this was one bad con and not you know a "Dallas" con thing :(

The guests who stayed deserve a medal IMHO. What a great thing to do for the fans in light of a very bad situation. It certainly must not have been comfortable for them to be there either knowing the situation behind the scenes, but they stuck it out for the fans. Kudos to them!:)

Oh yeah! Well you know..it was a well deserved post from FedconGermany;). After them lending FedconUSA their name and all. I remember Dirk doing a few German Fedcons and he always had great experiences with them.:)

Actually I don't think anyone thinks this is a "Dallas" thing at all. Cons happen all over the place and if memory serves, not long ago a con in Holland did pretty much the same thing. Only thing is Dirk and Dwight were THERE when that one fell into the abyss. It all comes down to organization. Period. No matter where in the world it is. ;)

Well, I've spent three hours today reading the FedConUSA forums and man, are the people mad about the whole thing! Which is totally justified IMHO, the tickets were very expensive and there should be a great con in return. Whether this desaster was caused by inexperience or (as it seems) lack of money in the last minute doesn't matter in the end, there is no reason for treating the guests like they did and keep selling tickets under false premises like not updated websites etc.

Just one note on the cancellation: as I understood it from the forums it weren't the organisers who cancelled the convention in the end. They were kicked out by the hotel people for some reason (maybe not sufficient ticket sales on Saturday and they feared for their money?). It was obviously another guy who had experience with conventions, who convinced the hotel to keep at least the autograph room open until 3pm, and the guests kept signing pictures and had their photos taken with fans just for the sake of the fans, because they were so disappointed like it was. As ani and Tracy said, kudos to them, they deserve a medal. It shows that they take their fans serious.

However, I guess Dirk was lucky actually that he was at home and not stuck in Dallas. That way he could at least turn his weekend into something productive ;)

Correction on that - it was *after* the con was canceled that the hotel was going to close things up. They were talked into keeping the autograph room going until 3:00, but after that they would have had to pay another shift of employees. The hotel would not have thrown anyone out if the con hadn't been canceled to begin with. It was definitely the organizers (and I use that term loosely) who stopped everything in its tracks. ;)

Did I get that so wrong? I'm sorry, I apologise for that, I didn't mean to spread false information.   I had the thing with the new shift right in my head though... :D

This is part of the "apology" note from Tim the organizer:

And to our guests with whom we had issues getting flights, contracts, and the like, namely James Callis, Aaron Douglas, Richard Hatch, Jack Marshall, and Anthony Montgomery: I am so very sorry. The blame for our communications issues lands squarely at my feet and I hope that you will not hold that against any of the FedConUSA staff, FedCon Germany, and all other conventions. The money shortfalls that lead to the cancellation of the convention was also responsible for our not being able to rebook flights in a reasonable timeframe to accommodate your changing filming schedules. I really wish you would have been able to make it and think that if you had, you would have had a wonderful time.

First, I note he only "apologizes" to the guests that either through themselves or Aaron made it most widely known that their flight was ruined by FedconUSA not themselves. So you know, no apology to Dirk or a few others.

Second:
"The money shortfalls that lead to the cancellation of the convention was also responsible for our not being able to rebook flights in a reasonable timeframe to accommodate your changing filming schedules. "

Ohhh changing filming schedules, THAT was the reason. I see. All right Tracy, fess up, what Top Secret project is Dirk filming right now? :p:))
(I believe Tim earlier implied it was Battlestar. ) :))

No need to apologize! Someone else on the boards thought the same thing - it's easy to get mixed up with all the various stories going on over there - just trying to keep track of who's saying what about who and when is enough to drive a tee-totaler to drink! :o

Well, the squeaky wheel gets the grease, you know ;) Then again - considering what his apology is worth...

Hi all! A fan from Australia here, did someone mention that Dirk will be in Australia and New Zealand this year? Do tell! Where and when does anyone know where I can find out more?
Many thanks and have a great day.

Lyn,

Since Dirk has already divulged this himself in his recent article, he's moving to Europe soon. I don't foresee Australia or NZ stops in the near future.

Hello Fellow "Battlestar Galactica" fans!

With only a few weeks left before bookings on GALACTICRUISE closes, here are the lastest important announcements.

Dirk Benedict and Anne Lockhart cancel GALACTICRUISE

Both Dirk Benedict and Anne Lockhart sadly had to cancel their attendance for GALACTICRUISE due to other commitments. Though this is a great loss, we still have 8 Battlestar Galactica stars left to make this an incredible 30th Anniversary Celebration.

Please Note: July 1st deadline!

Please note that our deadline for signups and payment is July 1st. All guests attending MUST register and pay their event fees by this date. Please be aware that you can pay for your both your cruise and your event fee online. You also have the option of contacting Betty Carl (our travel agent) directly at St. Cloud Travel at 407-892-6165. The event fees do need to be paid for on site (we do accept checks and money orders as well). Betty Carl is at St. Cloud travel and processes all booking payments directly to Carnival Cruise and all event fee payments are processed through Rex Mundi Productions. Please be aware that these are the only payment options in order to secure both your booking and event fee payment. Thankyou,

The Midlands one should now be on the 1st / 2nd Nov it was unconfirmed as either 1/2 or 7/8 Nov last I heard due to it being at Coventrys Football stadium and it depended on the new season footie fixtures as to when Coventry were playing home or away. The new fixtures came out 2 days ago and Coventry are away on 1st Nov and home 7th Nov so convention must now be soon confirmed as 1st Nov.

Can someone point me in the right direction to the Midlands website (if there is one)? I can only find Collectormania in other locations.
