Happy Birthday Dirk,

When I was a child you've given me action, excitement and heroes to look up to.

Now as an adult I have to thank you for so much more. Just finished re-reading Kamikazi (and passed it on to a friend at work) and started re-reading "And Then We Went Fishing".

As a father of two wonderful children (son and daughter) I appreciate the book so much.

Also, I first read Kamikazi almost 8 years ago, and in doing so had quite a wakeup call to what I've been injesting all my life. It made me cut out junk food, and fast food without looking back or one bit of craving. I have yet to reach the full macrobiotic diet, but I think that is next. Not an easy thing, especially in a family of meat eaters, but something I believe I'm ready to do.

You've affected lives in very positive ways... and it is very appreciated.

I've been a fan since your days as Starbuck and you are a great inspiration to me. I really enjoyed reading your book "And Then We Went Fishing" I picked it up, started reading and couldn't put it down until I'd finished it.

I've changed my diet completely thanks to you and am heading towards a total macrobiotic diet. I'm feeling healthier than I've felt in years.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank you for all the years of quality entertainment. You are a fine actor and a wonderful inspiration. Because of you I have embarked on my own macrobiotic journey. I have only been on it a short while, a week to be exact, but I am already feeling the wonderful affects. I haven't had this much energy since I was a child. I know this journey will be often hard but I do not intend to go back to eating the way I did before.
