Hi everyone... I have just found and joined this site.

I have only become a fan through Big Brother. To be quite honest I didn't know who Dirk Benedict was... although of course when I saw him I knew exactly who he was.

I have never been interested in the BB show much before, but this time, after watching the first night.. I have become hooked, all because of Dirk.

For someone who is nearer Dirk's age rather than the others in the house, I cannot believe what has happened to me.. I've even subscribed to the 24/7 live feed on Channel 4's website. Just to watch and listen to Dirk. His sense of humour is awesome, so dry and witty.

The young girls on the show haven't got a clue... they think every thing he says is true, they don't realise when he is teasing them!

For once BB has been interesting, listening to Dirk and Jermaine has been the highlight of the past 3 and a half weeks.

I've placed my vote about 6 times so far, but the night is still young!!

DIRK SHOULD WIN he has been the most entertaining. (do you think there will be a DVD of the 'best bits'?

Hi Feeonagh

looks like we come from the same neighbourhood! :D

I'm new here too. Dirk is the only reason I continued watching CBB, I think he has been brilliant, despite the provocation from the others.

I hope he wins too, although he has stiff opposition, namely Jermaine and Shilpa.

Great - more folk from Scotland - I think we should campaign for an appearance from Dirk up here! He'd love the fishing !

Keep voting for him!

Hi!
I'm from Canada.
But like all the rest of Dirk's fans, we all want to see him in a lot more television and movies.
He's very, very, very popular in Canada and the States.
We want him back home!
But, I'm sure we can all share him!

take care,
Anne :)

WOW.....I have been away from the site for a week+(re-buliding homes destroyed in Mississippi by hurricane Katrina) and missed the final days

....now that it is over I am glad Dirk stayed in as long as he did and placed in the top 3.....but most of all I am proud of how he conducted himself

.......and on top of all that we have gained some wonderful new friends here

...I would start to welcome all of you but I know I would miss some and feel horrible about it  .....so I wont even attempt it

.... but to all of you that joined recently WELCOME...each of you have added so much to our "little family" & I hope you stay

WELCOME & KEEP COMING BACK!!!!

thank you Donna for your warm welcome, and to Annie too.

I intend to keep an eye on the place, to keep tabs on Mr Benedict, and you guys too

How is the rebuilding going in Mississippi? Do you live near there, my geography is bad enough for places in the UK, never mind USA!

Hi All

I'm new too and became a fan of Dirk's because of Big Brother. I thought he was a very nice charming and down to earth guy. I was glad he reached the final and was in the Top 3 with Jermaine and Shilpa.

Its not just the fishing he'd like here in Scotland.... I believe he is partial to a good Malt Whisky..

I know he'd just love it up here - we could do fishing , distillery visits, Malt Whisky Society, romantic dinner in that Michelin star macrobiotic restaurant thats just opened in Edinburgh - ok now I've drifted off into the realms of fantasy - I could always cook him something at home----------

I'd love to show him the sights of the Midlands!

I had a huge crush on Dirk when he was in the A Team (watched 5 episodes yesterday - have been having a lot of 'A Team Weekends'!). I thought he was the most beautiful man ever to appear on tv - and he still looks just as great. So I was really pleased to see him in Celebrity Big Brother, and discover that he also has a fantastic personality. Intelligent, charming, handsome, funny - I've said it before, but it doesn't harm to repeat it...for me, he is the true winner!

I watched the A Team when I was really young and while I don't remember the details of each episode, I remember how my cousins and I loved it and would play make-believe as the characters on it. It was a happy childhood memory. I was thus delighted when Dirk appeared on Celebrity Big Brother - at last, a celebrity on Big Brother that actually deserved that status and whom I actually recognized!

Dirk has aged incredibly well. He has made me determined to eat more healthily and to encourage my hubby to do the same. I'm 35 years old and I'm not into the macrobiotic spiritual aspects, but have always been partial to miso and a couple of beans. In any case, Dirk has proved that 61 is the new 45!

Undoubtedly, he is a good-looking bloke, but I don't think that is the only thing that endears him to his fans. He was the only reason I was glued to CBB this year. I usually dislike the celebrity versions of these reality programmes. Dirk however, is the most uncelebrity celebrity I've ever seen. His self-deprecating humour and intelligence were utterly charming and he also showed a vulnerability which upped his likeability factor.

In my opinion, Dirk was the real winner of CBB this year.

Hi there :D
I am new to this forum...infact i'm new to the Dirk Benedict hysteria...have never watched TAT or BSG and in a way i'm glad that i watched him the first time on CBB just being himself and boy! he is more genuine than most of the celebrities of our time and from the past. The qualities i liked most about him are:
He is very un-assuming about his achievements, wise, level-headed, intelegent ofcourse, "pedantic" but in a very subtle and caring way and not imposing at all which is a very rare quality. It was very sad to see that not many CBB housemates could observe these qualities in him when most of the people watching the Live Feed could!
I started watching CBB becuase of Shilpa as i'm an Indian and have watched most of her movies and thought it was a very interesting idea to have her on the show....but with each passing day i started to admire Dirk's performance in the house ( by performance i mean him being him and not his acting!). I still have no idea how i spent those 25 days in January as i was hooked on CBB most of the time mainly because of Dirk! wanting to learn his views about anything and everything!

I sincerely hope that he is happy wherever he is ATM and wish him good health and loads of GOODLUCK :)

I know this year's CBB was dominated by what Jade said about Shilpa but dirk was by far the most entertaining and funniest person in that house. When he was talking witth Jermaine & Leo about different things i wish i was sitting there in person listening. :P I am a young person myself but i find dirk is very attractive for his age. I really hate Cleo and still do for what she tryed to do to dirk that day.

Hi Sandwoman
I'm sorry but I have to disagree, I hope you don't mind ...
DB is a shy unassuming guy. His kids made him do CBB, perhaps because they think he needs to mix a bit more with the world. I've read somewhere here (sorry can't remember where) that he is a reknowned recluse even in his area of Montana! Although CBB was great for us, all this media interest must be ghastly for him - esp the splatting of his private business to do with his father all over the british tabloid papers - the UK papers were even hassling his family for gory details - yuk!

My concern for DB is that this is going to turn him into even more of a recluse - I have visions (oh no not them again!) of him becoming some 'mountain man', except his movie star vanity (LOL!) would keep him from growing a long grey aging beard!

Really he needs time away from the media, and perhaps fans, and to hang out with his kids, family and friends. So I'm very happy not to hear too much about his current life, because I'm hoping he's recovering from this circus!

Hope you don't mind me sharing..
Love to all

Yeah, I can understand your frustration. How long? Hmmm! Well he got divorced in the early 90s, and his kids only made him 'get out' of his log cabin in 2007! (OK, sloppy English). Also, I think he was in the UK last year for a convention, so I don't know if he normally does them every year in the UK, perhaps others can say.

What I think might be a good 'gig' for him is maybe the Hay Book Festival thing?
http://www.hayfestival.com/
He could perhaps plug the reprint of Kamikaze, and all the book publishers will be there, so he could discuss reprint of Fishing and a 3rd vol? Also, you Welshies' could welcome him? Just a thought!

Love all

It must feel weird when you first get out of that house! I've read about BB contestants thinking that someone is watching them through mirrors for months after  haha.

Maybe it's best for him to stay out of the way for a while. As soon as he steps foot in this country he'll be questioned about Jade, Shilpa, racism blah blah blah. Best to wait until it blows over (I think Britney Spears has helped that cause a little, bless her) and people have calmed down a bit.

Hello eveyone! :D
Yes, he does need some down time.
I've invited him to visit, where I live. After, he's rested of course.
I'm of German background and it's a tradition in my family to invite people to our homes.
Practically, everyone here where I live is somewhat of a recluse, but we're also very genuine and friendly. It's not a big city, but very peaceful and quiet and right on beautiful Georgian Bay.
I used to live in Toronto, Ontario. I have never ever liked large cities.
I've noticed Dirk doesn't either. :D

take care,
Anne :)

Hi joanne! :D
Welcome!
Try your used bookstore. You might be able to get a copy there. Also try amazon.
I do believe there is a major strong chance that he will re-publish it. I think you mean the book "And Then We Went Fishing".
Good Luck! :D
I also think he may return to London, to do a musical...I heard that somewhere..I am not sure if it's accurate. Be sure to ask Tracy, she should know.

take care,
Anne :)
