Hey there. I've seen people eating this diet and it looked neat. It looked healthy yet tasteful. I guess, sensible. But I was doing some reading on it and I read that people on this diet can suffer from malnutrition and even get scurvy. How accurate is that? Is there a right book to read on this or a place I could go to find out more?
The Macrobiotic Way by Mishio Kushi. That would be an excellent starting point.
When Macrobiotics first started being talked about, some misinterpreted the concept to mean that the only acceptable foods were the grains. People who eat only a single food are going to have nutrition issues. When adopted properly, though, a Macrobiotic diet does provide all the necessary nutrition we need.
I'm trying to adopt it, but there is a learning curve involved. ;)

I would like to second Dawg's comments...it is like so many things you read and hear.....the writer/speaker is often coming from one point of view......you need to add yourself into the equation to get the real answer
.......a macrobiotic diet can be abused just like any other...when you take one element out and just follow that you get an unbalanced diet
......eating macro is more about eating the things that are around you and in season
....it is about finding foods that do not send your body into extreme swings
....things like processed foods and sugars send your body into a huge swing in one direction or another....like too much sugars in your blood
.....eating whole grains and fruits and vegetables do not throw your body into swings as easily
...I recommend not only reading things from the Kushi institute but try reading things by Marilu Henner as well...she take a very practical approach to eating and even life and breaks it down to making it simple and easy to adjust
......I wish you well as you take steps to eat to live better
Take care,
