Just got this through my google alerts:

I don't keep up with BSG too avidly, so don't know if this is already old news on the web or not...

I'd love this to be true.
You can see what the aborted Bryan Singer movie might have looked like here:

It would be nice if we could have a proper BSG revival with some original cast members in it; I've only been able to stomach a few 5 minute bursts of Ron Moore's "effort".
IMO I don't think Dirk is too taken with the current BSG, even before his "Lost in Castration" article the reimagined version seems to sum up to him what he sees as all that's wrong in current TV productions; but I may have misead his take on it completely.

Well, Sharma, if you misread it, so did I, so, I don't think so. I've managed to catch the BSG Dark, as we like to call it (since, as Dirk so rightly pointed out, it only shows the dark and vicious side of life - where's the hope? How about something just a little bright and fun for a change? :( )I believe Dirk dislikes it (to put it mildly) and rightly so!
That said, I've been hearing about a new original-cast Battlestar Galactica movie for years, but I think it has to be a collaborative effort, it can't just be Glen Larson's or Richard Hatch's vision of how it should be. Dirk, Laurette, Herb, Terry, Anne, and quite a few others should get some say in it. I know Richard blew a small fortune making a 'what if' trailer that's been shown at conventions; a good idea, but his own, and not necessarily the right way to go...
And, as for the new version, there's a reason why we sing what we do when that pretend Starbuck comes on screen (with apologies to Steven Hyde on That 70's show, we borrowed your tune and altered your lyrics) -
"We don't love you anymore, you ain't nothing but a whore!"
At least we manage to get a giggle when we do that - it's the only one we hear!
And, if Richard Hatch is so anxious to return to his role as Apollo, why the heck is he playing Tom Zarek? Ick. He's allowed to do what he wants, of course, but, ick.
Still, I'd love nothing more than to see our beloved Starbuck and Apollo back on screen as they're meant to be...

I was fairly sure he hated it, as do most fans of the original series. I think it's as dislked as Galctica 1980(except for that certain episode).
Why would they defile our BSG like that ? It's absolutely ghastly and depressing(the Ron Moron version).

Well, It's strictly my opinion, but - they're morons (?) How else can anyone explain that low grade soap-opera trash they've thrown at us under the Battlestar Galactica name? Lorne Greene, Lloyd Bridges, and John Colicos must be spinning in their respective graves! Bad enough they made Starbuck a female (and a trashy one at that!) but to make Cain a female? :P Those jerks are lucky they aren't being haunted! This is why the Star Trek franchise went into the toilet! Let's all just hope they cancel it soon, and put it out of its misery.
Exactlly how many of the original actors/actresses told them to take a hike, does anyone know? Or, if any of them were even asked? I know they tried to get Jane Seymour to join the cast and she outright refused to consider it. And didn't they suggest Dirk come in to play Kara's father in an upcoming episode, or is that mythology they put out to make it sound good? I'd like to think they tried and Dirk told them to stick it where the sun doesn't shine...
Oh, well. Idiots. You can't stand them, but you also can't tie them to railroad tracks five minutes before the next train is due.

The best thing we can do for this detestable creation is ignore it and dissociate ourselves from it. Really appalling stuff.

And that's kind of official policy around here, too.
We're here to celebrate Dirk Benedict and his roles in Battlestar Galactica and A-Team and his movies, his writing, Macrobiotics, etc. Discussion of "other things" only clutters things up, don't you think?

Absolutely, there are sites available elsewhere to discuss the Ron Moron effort for those suitably deranged.

Yes, I have to agree new series not good, no humour, no fun and no Dirk or Richard in there to make it interesting. If they didnt ask Dirk to join then they made a huge mistake as he is the life and soul of the old series. Maybe, because he hates it, he did tell them to stick it where it dont shine. Hmmmmmm I wonder. Watching BGS at the moment great series, Dirk is a star

Actually, your statement is not 100% accurate, moviemogul - but

You're discussing "other things". We don't discuss "other things" on this site. ;)
Dirk has many things going for him that most of the current crop of actors don't. Honesty, charisma, talent... His "Lost in Castration" article was really about what Hollywood has become, and he used "other things" as an example of that mentality, the disregard for what came before, etc.
I have a tremendous amount of respect for Dirk. He's not afraid to speak his mind.

Okay - so, back to the original topic --
What are the chances of a new Battlestar Galactica movie with Dirk as our beloved Starbuck?? And, is there anything we can do from our end to push the issue? Emails, snail mail, whatever it may take, if we really, really want it, don't we have to make that known? Saying it on this website isn't going to make it happen. Anyone know who we should contact, and in what format? We all keep talking, but nothing is happening - it's time for action, don't you think?
Original series fans rose up long before the decision was made to go with what Universal and Skiffy finally shoveled at us, Ariana.
It started coming together behind Richard Hatch back in the '90's - that fizzled. Then came the Tom DeSanto/Brian Singer effort in 2001 for Fox - which, in an agonizing development for any true sci-fi fan, they dumped in favor of Firefly (which they treated so abysmally that it might have been a good thing Tom's efforts got torpedoed) - and the rest has been a very sad chapter in BSG history.
I had the honor of helping with the Colonial Fan Force a couple of years ago - we gathered money (in excess of $12,000 USD) and placed advertisements in national entertainment magazines calling for the revival of BSG - we sent letters to Universal, Skiffy, everyone we could think of.
We were ignored. No, that's not quite right. We were ridiculed, insulted and antagonized, and used as fodder for their hype. What WE wanted never entered the picture.
Time is very short. As long as there is a working production the safe bet is that nothing else will happen at an official level. And every year that passes without a script, a studio, or even apparent official interest, reduces the already slim chances that we'll see a continuation that includes any of the surviving original actors.
I know Dirk would have loved to be Starbuck again.
I do feel strongly that fan-produced films, audio plays, written stories (fanfic), more than anything else, will keep the BSG universe alive - we certainly can't pin our hopes on Universal (deaf, uncaring ears) or Glen Larson. If anybody's interested, I'll provide links to a couple of fan-driven websites I know of.

Hi again everyone!
Here is another Battlestar Galactica website, that I'm also a member of.
www.battlestarfanclub.com
It does refer to the "so-called" BSG series, but, it does have tons of information of the original series and in my mind and I'm sure everyone else's the "real" and true and one and only Battlestar Galactica series.
There is a very funny blooper reel, than you can download(you have to register at the site, in order to be able to download) you can either download it for windows media player, or real player format. I have both formats downloaded.
It's very, very funny. John Colicos, Lorne Greene, Dirk Benedict, Richard Hatch and the rest of the original cast, all ham it up for the camera, included in the blooper reel is a very funny episode type spoof called "We Gotta Find Earth".
Enjoy! :D
take care,
Anne :)

Hi everyone! :D
I agree with all of you!
The TOS BSG series is the "one and only" and "true" series.
And Dirk is the "one and only" Starbuck!
Take care,
Anne :)

Hi, Barbara758-
I've seen the "We Gotta Find Earth" blooper reel, and you're right - it's hysterical. In fact, I have it on tape, from the Battlestar Galactica 15 yahren Reunion Con, which I attended, where I got to meet Dirk, Richard, Anne Lockhart, Herb. Jefferson, Jr.,and a several others from the show, including the writers (who were hilarious) and Glen Larson. And if I'd known then what I know now, I doubt I'd have been so polite to him.
Dirk is definitely the one and only Starbuck, and I'd like to thank the folks at ION here in NY for showing the original series every Sunday. Tonight's going to be both parts of War of the Gods, and I'll probably miss part of the NASCAR race (sacrilege under any other circumstances :D ) to watch that instead - after all, Dirk and Richard in those great lilttle Triad outfits...
