It would be nice if we could share things that are working in your diet/life for you in the recipe section of this site

....I don't know about you but I can use all the help and advice from others as I navigate thru creating a healthy kitchen for my family

.....things like I now use stevia in place of sweeteners...it is actually sweeter than sugar and much better for you...I even have a stevia plant and use the leaves in tea

I have also found some great ideas for recipes in Marilu Henner's books..."Healthy Life Kitchen" is my favorite one

of course there is a great books from the Kushi Institute...my new favorite one is "The Complete Guide to Macrobiotic Cooking" by Aveline Kushi

we have found some great ways of making miso soups....we use all kinds of veggies in it and have it daily...daikon is always added around here

Rice Dream milk is our favorite of the milk substitutes....when cooking we find a few of the soy ones are cheaper.....for oatmeal cooking w/Rice Dream is our favorite though

So how about you....are there things or ideas that you find helpful???....If so stroll on over to the recipe section and share!!!

HEY!! How do you find time for cooking? I try, but the microwave is just to tempting. Fast, with little more effort than opening the package. [Not the best for my health though. I'll worry about that later. ( sorry Dirk! )]

I've cut down on soda (it's the caffine that's addictive) and have taken to drinking water throughout the day. I have a little glass of soda every once in a while but now I've replaced it with distilled water. Tap water tastes like shit. Soda is one of the most health-crippling things you can put in your body. Also when I get up in the morning I will have a Fusion. This is a smoothie-type drink and it's probably got all kinds of sugar in it, but it's better than caffine. I never was a coffee drinker. But ever since this last summer, when temperatures got unearthly and you have to keep hydrated and I was swimming alot so that works up hunger and thirst, I got in the habit of drinking pure water. I drink more than the recommended 8 glasses a day. Maybe about that many...and let me be the first to tell you guys...when you replace all drinks with just water, you'll notice the energy, the toned look and glow of your skin. Of course, I've never been much of a meat eater and I avoid those fast food cancer stations like the plague. If I'm really starving and there's no other choice but fast food - then I try to go with a salad or something chicken or fish. Neither one tastes like real food! Not once you've started drinking pure water as much as I do.

You actually develope a taste for fresh veggies and fruits. The organic milk takes some getting used to BUT you really want to not drink from any animal that's been treated with anti-biotics. Unless your life depends on anti-biotics, stay away from them at all costs.

Oh and the SUN is a great healer. I don't care what the general public says about UV rays, blah blah blah...the sun will draw toxins out of you. Those people who're out in the sun all the time and have leathery looking skins,,,the toxins inside have been drawn from them and there are ways to rid yourself of toxins and have healthy skin again. You need the sun as well. The sun will kill toxins. Not bacteria. Some people have strains of that anti-biotic crap so much in their systems that fungus will develope. There are ways to heal that, too.

Water, should be the first steps to a healthy way of life.

I occasionally drink root beer. But I prefer juice (apple) and FIJI bottled water. At night I have always snacked on fruit or fresh veggies. And as for the meat thing, I don't really eat much. A piece here or there. I LOVE shrimp. Fish I don't eat. And with the holidays coming up leaves me question who can have Thanksgiving without Turkey? Even though I only eat one small piece and the rest goes to my dog, I have to cook it. But my poor dog is starting to get on the heavy side.

I love shrimp and seafood and lobster is the nectar of the gods! I like fish but that's because when I was growing up there was herring, sardines and other such foods around so I guess one gets used to it. Salmon, tuna and orange roughy are my faves. All of these I mention are also RICH is oils and minerals that the body needs.

You gotta have turkey for Thanksgiving. That's a given. I prefer Chinese food. LOL!

Egg rolls, crabmeat cheese, egg drop soup, and chicken with pea pods is my fav. meal. (Even there most of the chicken goes to my fat dog.)

- I do have quite a sweet tooth. I swear that sugar will be the death of me yet. Dirk is much stronger then I to follow such a diet. I don't think I could give up all the sweetness that temps me daily. Cookies, candies, sweet rolls. It's amazing I am not the size of a house! I credit my horse for keeping me in shape. And I have decieded to at least try to get away from some of the sugar. Any words of advice that would help a sugar addict?

Have you tried Tahini sauce with dried organic apple or on a brown rice cake? Yum! And it definately satifies that "sweet" craving!

Well, sugar and soda and junk food is addictive to some level. No dount about it. But I can tell you that the more you feed your body water (pure water - forget tap water because there's unhealthy stuff in that) but the more you drink water, the more you'll crave things that your body needs. It's not 100% but it helps. The rest would be up to sheer willpower. A macrobiotic diet is sheer willpower, and others have obviously succeeded in that.

I exercise daily. Jogging. Training with my horse ( show jumping ). Crunches, leg lifts, all that JAZZ. Not to forget chasing my son around. Sugar is just such an easy "pick me up". Thank you! I will try the Tahini sauce. And more water.
