Did anyone watch the first episode "33" of the new Galactica on Scifi Channel?
Thoughts?
Tracy :)

Not yet... and it will take long to arrive to my country, so any input will be welcomed.

Actually, it comes on tomorrow in my "territory". Doesn't really matter, though, as I have no interrest in waisting any more of my energy on it. I did watch the 2003 mini series to try to be fair to it but it sucked horribly (IMO)!
As a side note, it does crack me up how the comercials on the sci-fi channel say that it's an "orriginal series". Ok...so it's nothing like the original Battlestar....but an "original series"? Don't think so.
Ok...enough of my small rant - for now. :)

I avoided watching the Mini series the 100 times it was played on Space (in Canada, eh) and well, I caught it when it was played on NBC .
Apart from the bad casting, poor aciting, the story line with the Cylons is interesting. This is a very dark version of the show we knew as kids.
Tonight's episode kinda reminded me of a Stargate one for some reason, oh I know! because it was filmed her ein Vancouver., same forest. :o
Anyway, if you have been avoiding the show, I suggest you give it a try I think you'll be surprised in a few ways.

Well tonight I was gonna give this a chance when it came on but the phone rang and I missed pretty much the first 40 minutes. I tuned in to the end bit and I will give it this. The space scenes were cool. The shaky camera thing however annoyed the hell out of me and I found it very distracting. My husband thought that "33" was a "weird choice" for a first episode.

ACtually 33 makes sense, heck Adama still had the cut he got from the mini series.
Although I found it odd that the Galatica was supposedly a full ship when the "war" began, and yet the whole crew was on duty. You think they would rotate shifts so people would get sleep and be more alert.
One thing about this show that I do like , that annoyed me from the original is that Apollo isn't the perfect person. So it's not predictable. IN the original series it was Starbuck and Appollo, Apollo and Starbuck. "Who's going to save us?" Why Apollo and oh yeah Starbuck will be there helping.
Tonight "STarbuck" actually yelled at Apollo for being a weak commander. Now would that happen in the old series? Definitately not.
What I found odd (at first) was chase seen on Capria with Helo. That was cool, it was sort like Terminator, the Cylon would die. Looks like the plot with Boomer Cylon is going to come quicker than I had thought it would. I thought they drag it out for a while, but they're really going for it. I like that :)

I guess if I had of watched the 4 hour mini and not have missed the first 40 minutes of the first episode I would have a better idea.
( Did I just say *watched*????? ) ;)

I watched some of it. The CGI is quite good. Olmos and McDonnell make the show while James Callis is the show with his quirky performance as Dr Baltar. IMHO Kara is the worst character on the show. They should have kept the character of Starbuck male and possibly cast Matt Le Blanc from Friends in the role. At least he is fun to watch.

Me too, reminds me of Saving Private Ryan. Seems like many directors like to do that now-a-days.

Hi Tracy! How are you?I
I have only watched some of the episodes of the new series. I have tried watching it, the effects are good and the actors are good, but IT IS NOT Battlestar Galactica..
I highly dislike it. The only "true" Battlestar Galactica series is the original.
1. There is only one Starbuck and that is Dirk Benedict.
2. Thank goodness that Larson acquired the movie rights.
3. I have the original series on DVD and have watched it over and over. That series IS BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. I also have some of the episodes on VHS . One of the best is "The Long Patrol"

Anne :)

I saw the NEW BSG, where the new STARBUCK searches for earth. And you know what makes this REALLY BAD. ( I mean BAD!).
Starbuck is leaning over a table using a compass, to navigate through the stars. Now, AHEM, the last time I saw that (in a space show) was LOST IN SPACE.
That was REALLY bad, who ever put that in the script.

I'd like to add, that I missed most of Galactica 1980.
I was surprised to see the REAL Starbuck in the one episode. That episode should really be put in with the original series. When I first saw it, I thought I missed an original episode.
