When I was a kid wathching BG, the discussion with my classmates was: Athena or Cassiopea, which one you prefer for Starbuck?
I have no doubt: I would go with Athena to a desert island.
Who would be your choice?

Cassie with Starbuck.
That'd leave Athena for me :D
I first thought they both should dump Starbuck for each other. (and writing that fan-fic and breaking Starbuck's heart was surprisingly fun)
But then I felt sorry for Starbuck, and I decided he can have both of them. they can all get along.
It's really a hard choice for anyone to make. Both girls have their pluses and minuses.

Cassie for Starbuck. She's not one to change him. I can see Athena getting exasperated with him and his "fly boy" nature.
Cassie accepts he is what he is. A flirt.
They play well off each other onscreen.
Just my two pence.

Tracy, I always though Athena suited more Starbuck, but you have convinced me, Cassie is a better choice.
... and Warrior is right... that would leave Athena for me...
:)
I agree that the plusses of Cassie is the fact that she can handle Starbuck's wandering eyes, (she was a socilator), but there are pluses with Athena that are being ignored.
Both women are beautiful, but Starbuck has known Athena for a while and there is soemthing to be said for familiarity with someone, as well as the fact that Athena is from a powerful wealthy family, and that is a big step for a poor little orphan boy. (and all roghues are greedy to some degree). I personally couldnt make the decision. And I don't think, given his nature, Starbuck never could either.

Athena definately had her plusses too. She was a strong woman, a warrior. She was no nonsense as well.
I think Starbuck kinda made his choice though with Cassie. As in "Man With Nine Lives" he confides to Chameleon that Cassie was the only woman he'd ever considered getting "sealed" to.
In any case, "Return of Starbuck" took care of his dilemma. He didn't get either :)
I agree with you that Return of STarbuck did makde the choice. I alwyas thought that in Murder on the Rising Star, when CAssie AThena and Sheeba were at the Traid games together, I wonder how Athena felt when Cassie made the reference to STarbuck's body that Sheeba let out an inudendo.
I alwyas thought it a stretcht that the three of them could socialize. I mean, Cassie was in conflict with Athena over Starbuck, and she was in conflict with Sheeba over her father to some degree. (I'be been there. It never goes away).
But then, in a life and death situation like they were, to survive, petty differences would have to be put aside.
I can't help it but i've never liked Athena at all.... and still don't. (sorry Athena-fans) At the time i was a 10-year old girl and madly in love with Starbuck but it had nothing to do with jealousy i guess cause i did like Cassie. I always wanted her to end up with Starbuck. And i always had the feeling he liked her most. She was warm and relaxed and i always felt Athena was so cold. Maybe, me being a girl, it was also about her great feminine outfits and me wanting to be a nurse! :D I wanted to be just like her i guess because if i was a boy i would definetly pick her. :)
I felt really bad for Starbuck ending up alone in the very end but i did like that episode Return of Starbuck !

Let Starbuck chase after Sheba. He did try to put the moves on her in "The Living Legend"(that scene is in the original version, watch the DVD). That would leave both Athena and Cassie for me. Oh wait, I also liked Sheba, too. Sorry, Starbuck. There's always Rigel, Brie, or Deidra.

One of my favorite episodes is when Starbuck is going on a mission, and he's smoozong BOTH Cassieopia and Athena on the Rising star. And after he leaves, both ladies find out.
A Classic!

I'll always be a fan of Cassie and Starbuck. Not only did they have heaps of chemistry but they could also have a laugh together. Not to mention that I grew up desperately wanting to be Cassieopia!
If the series had continued I would have loved to have seen their relationship develop. Of course the writers probably would have totally annoyed me and not put them together!!!

I think Starbuck should be with Athena..
This a much better pairing. I think Battlestar Galactica the original series, would have been a much better show with Athena remaining on.
I would suggest watching the " Saga of a Starworld" with the Athena-Starbuck locker room scene intact. Athena is definitely not "cold", she was torn over the loss of her Mother and Brother, in that part of the movie. I feel that many of the TOS BSG fans haven't seen the whole movie intact with the cut scenes in place.. Also. if you ever have a chance to see the "Long Patrol" again, watch very closely! That's a classic! Athena is definiitely not "cold" in that scene.! When she and Starbuck are kissing(on the Rising Star) and very, very passionately, I might add!
I never cared for the Cassie-Starbuck pairing, frankly it ruined the show. Also, if Cassie was indeed a better match for Starbuck, she would tell him Chameleon was Starbuck's Father, not keep the information from him. Also, look how quickly Cassiopea went after Cain in the "Living Legend". Athena would stick by Starbuck, no matter what. What were the writers thinking?!

As someone else stated, she wasn't out to change him, and accepted (and wanted him) exactly as he is. That means a LOT, and by all apperances, Starbuck realized that and appreciated it.
I've been watching "Take the Celestra" lately, and Cassie is upset because Starbuck wants to go to the Celestra to see Aurora, an old flame. She'd better NOT get mad at him for doing that, 'cause that's exactly what she did when Cain came back into her life. Ran off from Starbuck into Cain's arms. I loved the look on his face when she did that too - he wasn't at all happy about it, and had to get a taste of what Cassie felt when he flirted with other girls. :)

Hello everyone!
I myself have had the chance to see the "Long Patrol" again and "Take the Celestra, as well as "The Living Legend"
Athena is "definitely" the better choice for Starbuck. Cassiopea is way too flighty
Athena would have stuck by Starbuck's side, no matter what.
The writers never gave Maren Jensen a chance at all, to prove herself. I have seen her in other movies and television appearances and she was very good. So this theory of her not being a good actress is b.s.
Recently, I had the fortunate opportunity to watch "Saga of a Starworld" with the whole Athena-Starbuck locker room scene intact! and a scene where Starbuck is in the launch bay with Cassiopea, he has his shirt off. My brother had an old vhs copy, which he transferred onto dvd for me. I highly recommend seeing it, if you get the chance.
I would also love to see a movie done about the "original series and only true series." for "Battlestar Galactica".
Perhaps with Dirk and Richard Hatch in cameos! THAT WOULD BE FANTASTIC!
The so-called new version doesn't make the grade.

I agree, they never did give Maren Jensen a chance. I notice that she and Tony Swartz (Jolly) were both listed in the credits but neither one were given much to do. Maybe if Maren had been given more air time with Starbuck, I would feel differently.
I really like Casseopia, but I kind of liked Athena too. Too bad they dropped the Starbuck/Athena/Cassie triangle so soon. It would have been interesting to see how it played out.
But I really REALLY like Cassie, even thought it would have been interesting to see how things would have played out if they had given Athena the time, and the show another season.
And yes, this new "Battelstar Galactica" is a poseur. It may be a good show in its own right, bt "Battlestar Galactical" it's not.

I think there should have been another. She would have had (insert your name if you are female) as a name, and looked like (yourself).
I think I was in 7th grade and I for one was in love with Starbuck!
